Failed GSync kit.

Post by PoWn3d_0704 » 02 May 2015, 14:44

Yeah... So I was one of the winners of the GSync contest back when Blur Busters ran it...

Today, my screen did a soft flash, my PC thought the monitor disconnected, and now my GSync display is just white. Soon as I turn it on, the screen goes white. Doesnt matter if there is a video cable plugged in or not.

The OSD comes on just fine though, so I'm willing to bet that the GSync chip failed. There was no shock, no impact, no nothing. I was just sitting back in my chair watching the Telsa Powerwall keynote.

I've got the original monitor scaler though. I guess I'll reinstall it.

Wondering if anyone else has had a kit totally fail.

Uh.... 1440p GSync here I come?

Well, I ripped the monitor apart, and everything was well plugged in, and the boards have no discernible damage...

I guess the chip just gave out.

I'm going to put the OEM scaler back in, and see if nVidia will let me get it fixed or replace it or something.

Just out of interest, were you using the 350.12 driver?

What's your thought process on this?

Just that the gsync is 'enabled' even on the desktop, and I was just wondering if that had anything to do with it. Like, is it really sensible to have variable refresh enabled permanently. Even though it doesn't even work as intended by dropping refesh on the desktop, I'm wondering if something is switched on, which you wouldn't want to be using unless neccessary (ie gaming). I'm certainly not saying it is, just speculating.

To be honest, this has me quite worried, since I have the exact same monitor with the kit fitted. And I'm sure I saw this flash of white light the other day, now that I think about it

Well, actually, now that you mention it, MORE worryingly, GSync was shut off.

I was playing CSGO, and so I was not using ULMB OR GSync. GSync was shut off in the NCP at the time of the failure. It was just being a normal monitor...
