Nvidia Driver 358.50 Capping FPS at 135 with G-Sync?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Nvidia Driver 358.50 Capping FPS at 135 with G-Sync?

Post by GameLifter » 08 Oct 2015, 01:06

After downloading the Nvidia 358.50 driver and firing up CoD 4 I noticed that my fps was capped at 135 and would occasionally go up to 137. The same thing happened with FEAR. I know that when your fps hits your max refresh rate with G-Sync it acts like V-Sync and brings along the input lag with it. I also know that capping your fps at a frame rate below your max refresh rate such as 135 on a 144Hz monitor will alleviate the input lag caused by your fps hitting your max refresh rate.

So, could this frame rate cap I'm experiencing be some sort of new feature added to G-Sync to reduce input lag? In some areas of CoD 4 and FEAR the fps would drop to around the 120s as if it was trying to keep the input lag as low as possible. Has anyone else experienced this?

I can't find a 358.80 driver? I am on driver 358.50 and have noticed my fps is around 141 and 142.7. Its not hitting 143 no more.

You're correct. There is no 358.80 driver. I made a mistake when making this post at 1 AM, lol! Thanks for the correction! I'll have to test more games later and see if I get same behavior as I did with CoD 4 and FEAR.

You know you can get uncapped g-sync operation by turning off vsync in the CP as you normally would, right (since a driver release earlier this year)? Also if anyone uses windowed g-sync I'd stay away from this set, it's broken.

Yes, I am aware of this but I prefer to keep my fps capped when using G-Sync. I actually think this fps cap I'm getting is pretty cool since the games still feel smooth and I get very little input lag.

Nvidia released a hot fix for this issue a few days ago. As expected it was a glitch and not some new feature to reduce input lag like I was hoping.

G-sync still broken for me months and months on even with a new monitor and swapped out GCards/mobo. Such a joke.
