Diablo 3 lag

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Diablo 3 lag

Post by MaxiJazz » 03 Jul 2017, 02:38

Sorry for new topic. :?
So even with G-sync monitor Diablo 3 stutters as hell for me.
My specs:
i5 2500k @ 4400mhz
20gb ddr3 1800mhz
Gtx 1070

What have i tried:
1. Limits fps to 130\120\110\100\90...60, with <60 it's nearly unplayable (Background stutters like hell, 30 fps lock looking like slide-show in this game)
2. V-sync on\off both driver and game.
3. G-sync windowed and fullscreen.
4. Max pre-rendered frames 1-8 and use apps default.
5. Disabled overclock on cpu, gpu, memory.
6. Changed motherboard, ram, gpu (580-780-1070)
7. Turn OFF G-sync
8. Game on SSD, tried move it to WD black and even to USB 3.0 flash drive
9. Clear install OS and change os (Win 7, 8.1, 10)
10. Different drivers with G-sync support from R340.52
11. Disabled and minimised all game settings (Video, audio, social)
12. Disabled all background apps.

Looks like G-sync not working at all in this game.
Here is some gameplay video.

Just look on slomo recording, it's pain...
Some strange moment - while recording via ShadowPlay, it's VERY SMOOTH (Record, not gameplay during recording)
All other games working nice with G-sync.
Can it be fixed or it's game engine problem? :(

Just a test: does switching to 60Hz mode fix it? Do do that, set the "preferred refresh rate" setting in the nvidia panel to "application controlled" and switch to 60Hz on the desktop. Test it with g-sync OFF, in-game vsync ON, nvidia panel vsync "use 3d application setting."

Result: Same. It's looks like frame skipping or smth like that on the BACKGROUND. Character moves smooth in all situations, just look on the video. Stutters only on background, while movement of character is silky smooth.

Doesn't D3 have two separate frame limiters? One for the background, one for the foreground?

Yeah, it have separate limiters, but foreground limiter is for "while app is minimised".
But i tried to turned it both on\off, set various limits to both and still it's same, while it >60.
When it <60 (50 or lower) it's like hell on Earth. I played many games with 30 fps lock, but even 40 fps in this game is unplayable.
But, but, but... Character have smooth movement, but background...For "Top down" game it's unplayable mess with frames.

@MaxiJazz

You're complicating this a bit. This is a G-SYNC forum...

What we'd be trying to figure out here, is if the stutter is only happening in G-SYNC mode. Does it? Or does it disappear when you disable G-SYNC? From your post, it sounds like it happens with or without G-SYNC.

G-SYNC can't cause stutter, but it can't eliminate all forms of stutter either.

I looked up "Diablo 3 stutter" on Google search, and I got a lot of hits:
https://www.google.com/search?q=diablo+ ... 8&oe=utf-8

It's likely the game itself, G-SYNC or no G-SYNC.

Some games just stutter no matter what you do. G-SYNC can't fix all microstutter or frametime spikes. It only fixes the standalone V-SYNC stutter that happens when your framerate locks to half your refresh rate and back (60 FPS to 30 FPS, 144 FPS to 72 FPS, etc), that's it.

Read my "What are Frametime Spikes" section here for more details on system-caused stutter:

CPU Limiters is heavy for CPU?
Let me explain, i have 2500k@4400 with gtx 1070+G-Sync 144hz display and playing Diablo 3.
When i'm using RTSS lock to 60 fps - game has 1 frame (or smth) stutter every 5-10 second.
When i'm using Inspector V2 lock - stutter free, perfect smooth gameplay.
Without lock my fps 99% of time is 110+, so in teory CPU can it run with RTSS lock 60, but it's stutters.
Other games is same, but more harder to see stutter (barely visible).

Windows 10 1603 and 1709 was tested, same results for me.
This is CPU side problem or what?

I've tried so many things to eliminate stutter in this game. At one point I was running it off a ram drive. It may be that it is just poorly optimized in some way.

I know thats not what you want to hear but. I've probably tried everything I could find online or think of for 8 or more hours trying to get it running smoothly and also more time trying to force driver aa on my old sli setup. I found no perfect solution. Interesting that the nvidia limiter helps you though.

I know this is an old thread but ive found a way to smooth this out kinda.

It seems whenever u pause the game or load a different area the frame pacing changes into a rhythm.

Its worse when using Gsync or framerate limiter but it still happens with Vsync. If u press escape and open a menu it pauses the game so you can pause and unpause until you get smooth movement.

As soon as u pause or load again it will change the rhythm and make it skip again.

Anyone know of any third party app that might be able to address or help diagnose this issue
