This has been asked on reddit and Geforce Forums, and i'm going to ask it here as well..
Given that both Maxwell and Kepler have Displayport 1.2, would it be possible for Nvidia to bring Vesa adaptive-sync to these series of cards through a combination of firmware/driver update?
I ask this because when this was first asked @ Geforce forums, Nvidia's response seemed a bit contradictory to say the least.
ManuelGuzmanNV (Customer Care) had this to say:
This suggests that it's technically possible to bring Vesa adaptive-sync support to 9xx or older series of cards, but not in nvidia's plans to do so... This led to some discontent among some members of the forum, after all, it's common knowledge that there are still many out there using Maxwell and Kepler gpu's that could benefit from Adaptive-Sync without having to spend a lot of money on a premium G-Sync monitor...Sorry but we do not have plans to add support for Maxwell and below.

So, is there really no hope at all?Maxwell and below do not support the Displayport 1.2a standard. Adaptive Sync requires DisplayPort 1.2a. There is some confusion over the graphics firmware update tool we provide:

The tool enables new features on the graphics card so that it does not display a black screen on P.O.S.T. with DisplayPort 1.3 and DisplayPort 1.4 monitors but it does not enable DisplayPort 1.2a on the card.
