Should I turn off gsync when removing FPS cap?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Should I turn off gsync when removing FPS cap?

Post by GFresha » 06 Aug 2019, 15:06

I usually run gsync on and a cap that is 3 hz under my monitor's refresh rate.

If I want to play CSGO and want to run like 240-300 FPS and my monitor is 165 hz, should I turn off gsync or is it okay to keep it enabled while going above my refresh rate? Will it cause any stutters if I do this?

The reason why I ask is because I am too lazy to go to nvidia control panel and having to enable or disable gsync based on the game, I would much rather set it on and either go above my refresh rate for FPS games or below for graphics games.

You can disable it only for CS:GO in the NVCP per-application profile.

Don't think this feature actually works as whatever is set in the "setup gsync" page seems to override the profile.

For example I just turned on gsync for Far Cry 5 profile, turned it off on the "setup gsync" and turned on the enable gsync indicator option, and I turned on Far Cry and it did not show the indicator. So, I guess from now on I either enable or disable it from the "set up gsync" page.

Are you sure if I leave it enabled in the page and go past my refresh rate it would cause issues? Like will I get input lag or something? Because if its just tearing then its okay.

Not sure about lag, but you will be transitioning from synced to unsynced and back every time your FPS crosses the refresh rate, which might look weird.

Just try it, I guess, and see what happens.
