GPU max buffered frames
GPU max buffered frames
When using in game vsync alongside gsync/freesync what should this setting be set at in games with this option? The options are off or 1 to 5.
Re: GPU max buffered frames
That setting is typically the in-game pre-rendered frames queue count control, similar to LLM/MPRF.

Re: GPU max buffered frames
You've never heard of Nvidia "Low Latency Mode"/"Maximum pre-rendered frames" or AMD "Anti-Lag"?
Anyway, it's not directly related to VRR, and really only takes effect when both your GPU is maxed and your framerate is below your FPS cap. You didn't mention which game this setting was in (I only recall it being in games like Watch Dogs and Far Cry 3, myself), but try setting it to 1.

Re: GPU max buffered frames
I have heard of those and remember hearing that they are only useful if your gpu usage is high and I am asking for Far Cry 3 as I got it free from ubisoft recently . I'm just asking because I know double buffered vsync is better than triple for gsync so will setting that setting to 1 make vsync double buffered or am I misinterpreting something?jorimt wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 08:19You've never hear of Nvidia "Low Latency Mode"/"Maximum pre-rendered frames" or AMD "Anti-Lag"?

Re: GPU max buffered frames
The pre-rendered frames queue that this setting affects exists with no sync as well. It isn't related to V-SYNC.fowteen wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 08:32I have heard of those and remember hearing that they are only useful if your gpu usage is high and I am asking for Far Cry 3 as I got it free from ubisoft recently . It occurs between the CPU and GPU, and any sync method occurs between the GPU and display.
Far Cry 3 is old enough that if you have a decent system, you'll probably be able to maintain a high framerate without maxing your GPU, so that setting won't have much effect in that game. But in the case it does, set it to 1. It means you will get between 0-1 pre-rendered frames when your GPU is maxed.
As for the "0" setting in that game, I can't imagine what that actually does. You can't really have "0" pre-rendered frames with a maxed GPU, so perhaps it just reverts to system default (0-3 pre-rendered frames).

Re: GPU max buffered frames
If you use an FPS cap, and the game is always reaching that cap, this setting does nothing (the game will behave as if it's set to 1.) If the game falls below the cap, or if you don't cap, then the lower you set that value to, the less input lag you'll get. It might lower overall FPS though.
