How do I setup Gsync with a 60hz locked game?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

How do I setup Gsync with a 60hz locked game?

Post by Kokonoe » 24 Oct 2020, 21:39

So this is a Gamecube game being played on Dolphin emulator. This game is Smash Bros Melee which is always 60FPS. My display is also 60hz.

Is there a way I can use Gsync with this? Thanks.

Since that game's framerate is tied to engine logic, a 57 FPS limit probably won't work, no. G-SYNC would work on a higher refresh display at a locked 60 FPS though; I have a 144Hz display, for instance, and I use G-SYNC with 60 FPS games in Dolphin.

Look into RTSS Scanline Sync and other low-lag V-SYNC-only methods here:

Ah okay thanks. Shame RTX 2080 Ti didnt support HDMI 2.1. I'll try to find some kinda converter.

What do you mean by that?

I was only referring to the fact that if you play a locked 60 FPS game at 60Hz with G-SYNC, that it won't keep it in the G-SYNC range, and will thus revert to V-SYNC behavior with G-SYNC on + V-SYNC on or V-SYNC off behavior with G-SYNC on + V-SYNC off.

And since Smash's framerate is tied to engine logic, the usual -57 FPS recommended limit to keep G-SYNC in range at a physical 60Hz would put the game into slow-mo, thus you should try low lag V-SYNC methods instead, as to keep the FPS nearer 60.

If you had a higher than 60Hz G-SYNC-supported monitor though, you're 2080 Ti would suffice for purposes of a locked 60 FPS G-SYNC at 100Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, etc, HDMI 2.1 or no.
