Watching video with G-sync, windows 10, actual 2021 setup.

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Watching video with G-sync, windows 10, actual 2021 setup.

The setup is pretty simple
First Download and install mpv player to c:\prog\mpv
Then create file "mpv.conf" in c:\prog\mpv\mpv and open it with notepad and paste this to it:

Code: Select all

--video-sync-max-factor=1
--video-sync=audio
Then watch you videos with g-sync in fullscreen mode(press the F button)
Windowed g-sync unfortunately have glitchy FPS fluctuations
Have fun!

My actual setup is:
mpv-x86_64-20211031-git-4a80de9 is actual version Im used for g-sync playback
Nvidia drivers 496.49
gtx 970 videocart
pg279q 165hz monitor with hardware g-sync module

does it appear to you making a difference in watching videos ?

i asked this myself far to often now while watching videos in g sync i even interpolate them to archive higher refresh rates and smoother output.

I don't know about interpolation, but it makes a difference when the video's frame rate can't be mapped 1:1 to the display's refresh rate. If you use 120Hz on your monitor, then g-sync is not that important, because 24FPS, 30FPS and 60FPS videos map perfectly to 120Hz. But for 25FPS and 50FPS video, it doesn't, so you would either need to use 100Hz mode, or use g-sync.

Basically with g-sync you don't have to care anymore what the video's frame rate is.
