Looking for a crisp 1440p gaming Monitor

Post by Anonymous05 » 15 Jan 2022, 09:31

Hi everyone,
i need a new monitor for my new setup. I used to play only competitive, tryhard like, on a TN with at least 144Hz. But now I play more casual but still fps shooters like Tarkov, CSGO, Battlefield.

So I am looking for a 1440p monitor with IPS, fast pixel response time, little blur, at least 144Hz, 24-27Inch, G-Snc compatible

The newest official G-SYNC Compatible monitor with those specifications is the XG27AQM with a 1440p "Fast" IPS-type at 270Hz. It's predecessor, the XG27AQ, also uses a 1440p "Fast" IPS-type panel, but is only 170Hz (thus a little cheaper).

That's way too much. I need cheaper alternatives. I'll have to cut back then, maybe stick to 144Hz and forget about Gsync module. Are there any cheaper alternatives at all?

You didn't specify a budget, so I assumed you wanted the best and most recent. Only the latest 1440p models use the "Fast" IPS type panels that allow IPS GtG/overdrive performance to reach or exceed equivalent legacy TN panel-types.

That, and neither of the two models I mentioned had a G-SYNC module. "G-SYNC Compatible" means a FreeSync monitor with software-level G-SYNC via driver support. Native G-SYNC monitors are much more expensive, and there are only a handful of them at 1440p.

What is your budget?

Yes that was my mistake. I would have thought that at this price, the G-Sync module is already inside. My budget would be about 400€ then please with Gsync compatible.

I see you're using the euro, what country are you in? Because availability of some of these models will vary by region, so I might accidentally suggest a model that you can't acquire (at least without importing).

Regardless, a 400€ asking price is honestly at the low-end for a high refresh rate 1440p IPS (official) G-SYNC Compatible monitor, and more in range of a higher-end 1080p panel.

First of all, thank you for helping me here. So, I live in the federal republic of germany and do not know much about monitors price/performance. I would make further cuts according to your assessment like go from 1440p to a good 1080p IPS with possibly 240Hz? The new viewsonic would be great but it is not available here.

What 1440p models are readily available in your region that you've been looking at? If you provide a list, I (and anyone else who posts here) may be able to help you decide between them.

The following monitors are available to me.

MSI Optix MAG274QRFDE-QE
Gigabyte M72Q
Dell S2721DGFA
LG UltraGear 27GP850-B

So what is important to me with these monitors is the good color reproduction. Among these, or similar you can suggest, I would take the one with the best colors plus speed.

Thanks, that certainly narrows it down.

The best overall model out of that list is probably the MSI Optix MAG274QRFDE-QD, where the combination of contrast ratio, color reproduction, motion clarity, and many of the other metrics are concerned, and it's official G-SYNC Compatible (software-level G-SYNC tested and validated on this model by Nvidia).

It also has an sRBG clamp option for more accurate color space recreation of PC content, since the majority of PC monitors are now wide gamut to accommodate HDR content, which is still far and few between, especially where desktop and web use is concerned.

RTINGS happens to have reviews for each of those monitors if you want to more closely weigh the pros and cons of each as well (for instance, the M72Q rates better for strobing out of those four, etc):
