LCD with microsecond response time ? [Blue Phase LCDs]

Post by AddictFPS » 26 May 2020, 07:39

Chief say there are scientist research about this massive LCD speed improvement. I'm interested to know more about this amazing news.

Target is 1000Hz displays, so 1000FPS without smearing is needed for optimal experience, all GtG 100% transitions under 1ms is a good start, and this improvement maybe can do it.

For current 240-360Hz with strobing, should be equal to have a big frequencies range 100% crosstalk free. A magnifing glass should be over this project.

Who is doing this research ? to try find more information about this project.

There are GtG test numbers min-average-max ? to know the dimension of the improvement.

Do it maintain good overall specs ? or there are "collateral damages" like affects panel life time, random overshot artifacts, or limit in any form angles, contrast, brightness, color ?

If the quality/cost worth it for mass production, and thus if there are possibilities to see it in shops in some years fighting with OLED, MicroLED, QNED, QDEL.

Thanks

It's Blue Phase Mode LCDs, with a response time of 10 to 100 microseconds.

Some coverage:

https://leadingsolutions.co.nz/blogs/ta ... are-coming

Also, another engineering route is graphene pixel displays.

The bottom line is that LCD has many decades left in it, and remain legitimate high-Hz-capable tech for a long time to come alongside OLEDs and MicroLEDs.

Very interesting, thanks ! Image

From paper, is a giant jump Vs current LCD.

Overdrive-Free: Native speed, bye-bye artifacts and cost of overdrive management.

More fast that TN and OLED: Leadingsolutions say can reach minimun up to 1 microsecond ! But i think the most important is the maximun 100% GtG transition times, mixed with IPS, if can be allways under 1000, is enought to fit inside 1000Hz without additional smearing. I never see TN under 100 and OLED under 500, and these minimun GtG is only achieved going to black. If Blue Phase IPS can have under 1000 with all color changes, would be a revolution !

Surprised by the fact that current LCD's only out 10% of light from backlight, this also improved with blue phase, better eficiency at the same brightness, or same power comsuption with more brightness. Excellent news for motion blur reduction, short MPRT useable.
