Lightboost / backlight strobing on mobile and tablet ?

Hello,

I'm wondering if someone tried to strobe backlight (and changing frequency) on a smartphone or tablet using software ? Does something already exist ?
I saw a post where Chief talked about Galaxy S8 and GearVR hack. Would it be as effective as monitor strobing ?

The GearVR hack is roughly the same blur reduction as average desktop monitor strobing, but you have to tolerate a low-Hz flicker such as 60Hz.

- Samsung Galaxy S6/S7/S8 series have an undocumented 60 Hz strobe mode (GearVR) that can be hack-enabled for non-GearVR use.
- Sharp Aquos R6 smartphone has a true 240Hz screen (no cheats, no strobing).

Low persistence sample-and-hold (blurless by high Hz) is the direction the industry is going in long-term as the motion-blur-reduction measure. 240Hz screens have 1/4 web browser scrolling blur, 360Hz screens have 1/6 web browser scrolling blur, and 480Hz screens have 1/8 web browser scrolling motion blur.

For very small-FOV screens, retina refresh rates are much lower than for large-FOV screens, so 240Hz is a gigantic improvement that is preferred over flicker-based technologies.

However, for retro-friendly motion blur reduction (e.g. 60fps material etc), strobing is still needed.

Thank you for all these informations Chief !

I am looking to reproduce lightboost on a mobile and tablets, using strobing from 60hz to max refresh rate and duty adjustment.
I did many researchs on Blur Buster but not sure something already exists. Do you think it can be reproduced by software ? Has someone ever tried on Blur Buster ?
