Mac OS X 10.5 Pixel Clock Bypass

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

Mac OS X 10.5 Pixel Clock Bypass

Post by rabidz7 » 21 Jul 2014, 21:45

Is there a way to bypass the pixel clock limit is OS X 10.5? My PowerMac G5 Quad needs 240Hz (overclock PCB), but custom resolutions past 125Hz don't show up is System Preferences after installing them with SwitchResX (Basically CRU for OS X).

This is the 165MHz limit in the drivers of some connections -- some people have used an "active" DisplayPort adaptor to bypass the limit.

My GPUs don''t have DisplayPort... They are SLI 6600 GTs, with two DVI ports, each. I can't upgrade because I use a PowerMac with Open Firmware. A normal off-the-shelf GPU will not output anything because it has no open firmware initialization code. In short, unless I want to spend thousands to get a firmware written, I am stuck with ancient GPUs. Is there any way to bypass the 165MHz pixel clock limit for DVI?
