BENQ XL2411Z 120hz weird issue

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

BENQ XL2411Z 120hz weird issue

Post by emka » 09 Feb 2016, 07:10

I have a benq xl2411z, with 144hz set on desktop, my alt-tab in Valve Games (csgo, tf2) is instant. With 120 set to desktop, it takes about 3-4 seconds to alt-tab, is there anything I can do to speed this up? (I don't wanna play borderless fullscreen)

also forgot to mention I play those games on 1024x768 with no launch options

The display needs some time to adjust settings. The only way to speed this up is to put the desktop settings the same as ingame settings. Meaning put 144hz on desktop and use the same resolution. You can use a gpu scaled resolution though if you want a lower resolution but any display scaling will probably take some time for the monitor to set up.

Let me make this shorter: with 144 on desktop, alt tab is instant, with 120hz on desktop.. it takes 4 seconds. Is there any way I can make 120 native or something like that?

1920x1080@144hz desktop + 1024x768@144hz in-game - ALT+tab is instant
1920x1080@120hz desktop + 1024x768@120hz in-game - alt tab takes 3-4-5 seconds

The above poster answered it but you ignored him.

1024x768 @ 144hz is GPU scaled. You can't create a display scaled 1024x768 resolution without doing some tricky stuff (trying to do so will cause an out of range error with a black screen unless you use a custom vertical total). It's not changing resolution at all.

1024x768 @ 120hz is DISPLAY SCALED meaning the monitor is actually switching to a new hardware resolution. That takes time.
You can see the display scaled resolutions by looking at them in ToastyX Custom resolution utility. Notice the highest standard resolution refresh rate you can enter is 123 hz.

Don't believe me?

Check the OSD ->SYSTEM->INFORMATION tab next time.
What does it say when you play at 1024x768@ 144 hz?

Go check.

1920x1080@144hz.

Hmm, in my case i've got display scaled 1024x768 @ 144hz (osd informations saids that) and on desktop i use 1440x1080 @ 144hz (osd information saids that too)

And when i alt tabbing it takes 3-4 sec too.
It should be instnat cuz i use display resolution on desktop and in game. I using GPU scaling.

Why? So you can use 1024x768@120hz without having to wait 3-4 seconds?
Let me guess--more CS:GO nonsense again?

Just. use. 1920x1080. There is **NO** reason whatsoever to use 1024x768 anymore in CS:Go unless a game (like Dungeon Siege) won't go higher.

CS:Go uses +HOR scaling correctly now, unlike the fixed scaling of CS 1.6. That old stuff that CSS and CS:1.6 players used to do doesn't apply anymore.

BTW if you REALLY want your instant switch for 1024x768@120hz:

1) enable GPU scaling in your video card control panel. Problem solved.
2) OR: Download ToastyX CRU. Delete 1024x768@120hz from standard resolutions. Save and restart the video driver with restart64.exe. Problem solved.

If I enable gpu scaling I will get black bars instead of 4:3 stretched, I can't play csgo on fullhd, I just can't.

Well adapt to change then. Why does everyone say 'OMG I CANT PLAY IN FULL HD?"
Such a comment only applies if your video card is an ancient card like a Geforce 250GTX or Radeon 5970 or something. Otherwise #firstworldproblems.

Anyway since I'm being nice:
Protip: Enable stretch to full panel size in the video card driver panel settings.

That's what GPU (VIDEO) scaling is.
it means the video card does the scaling.

if you are using DISPLAY SCALING, then it's your MONITOR that handles 1:1, full screen or Aspect (in the monitor's OSD settings).

that means if you want full screen without black bars, then you need to use the video card driver panel to enable 1:1 (1:1 mapping with no scaling done, but the image is centered with black bars), Aspect (keeps aspect ratio but has black bars to the left and right horizontal edges of the monitor), or "Full Size" (stretches the image to fill the monitor's complete screen).

Enjoy your GPU scaled 1024x768@120hz at FULL SCREEN now.

Sorry for being "Salty." CounterStrike players are some of the most bossy, unreasonable people I have ever met. Including some who added me to constantly pester me about low resolution monitor settings. Dear God...
