Samsung 2013/14 line 1080p/120hz overclocking [Samsung HDTV]

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

Samsung 2013/14 line 1080p/120hz overclocking [Samsung HDTV]

Post by Jonch101 » 24 Dec 2013, 20:13

Wanted to follow up on my post in the "show off your displays thread". The Mod asked for a separate thread.

Here is what I used to achieve 1080p/120hz over hdmi 32f6300
Radeon R9 280X (Driver = 13.11 Beta)
CRU
AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher
(prob doesn't matter but im using a AR SILVER SERIES 120HZ HDMI CABLE)
http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa ... ck-Patcher - All info on setting this up, known issues etc.

This does not seem to work on my 55f7100, I only had a few minutes to test it earlier but the motion blur was back when playing Battlefield 4 even though ccc said it was set at 120hz. I also read another post somewhere where the user said they could not get it to work on their f7100. My F7100 has the newest firmware 1118, my f6300 has 1111. Could be the reason, so not updating the firmware is prob a good idea if you pick up this t.v.

Awesome and timely post. This display sold a good number over this Christmas selling season. So I'm sure plenty of people will benefit from what you found. Mine is still in the box and I'm helping the kids set up and their toys, so it's not time yet for me to play with mine yet. Merry X-mas guys.

So does it look like this display is strobing the backlight too?! My UNC5000FXZA from 2010 turns the backlight off intermittently as evidenced from my slow motion, so it's possible they have made some big improvements on this stuff. I am anxious to do my initial tests. Maybe today maybe tomorrow.

Merry Christmas back to you too. (And for others who celebrate something else -- Happy Holidays!)

For other readers curious about overclocking HDTV's, the related Blur Busters article is:
HDTV Refresh Rate HOWTO: True 120Hz from PC to TV

Since around 2012-2013, several models began supporting true 120Hz in an undocumented manner, and several Blur Busters readers have discovered several models that actually work without frameskipping at 120Hz.

My t.v. does not report 120hz when you hit the info button (in the how to link they also say your t.v. may not report 120hz because they did not intend for people to does this so its not programed in to report). In the AMD Control center it reports that it is out putting 120 check your nvidea control panel. The best way to test is in video games. In Battlefield with it off whenever I turn/run everything has a blur to it. With it on that goes away.

My UN40F6300 would only go up to 76Hz before being unable to accept the signal. I am using an NVidia 770 card that is easily able to drive my Seiki 50" display at 1080p120.

This was disappointing, but I am hopeful that someone can tell me if there is a way to drive it at a faster rate. It would be interesting to see the above poster give his evidence that he's getting an actual 120hz performance using Mark's tools to show there is no frame skipping occurring.

I don't know if I will be happy or sad if the 32" does 120Hz but the 40" does not. It would be the opposite of the Seiki 39" vs 50" issue.

Even at 76Hz, it is frame-skipping to get there on my 40". Hopefully I just need to do something different because I really would like to get a true 120hz from this display.
