Freesync via HDMI, but not via Display Port?

Post by jm11 » 21 May 2024, 08:13

Hello,

I'm looking to buy new external monitor for my laptop (my current display is old LG with 60Hz refresh rate, and sometimes it has problems with sudden power losses).

I was determined to buy LG 24GN60-B monitor, but while doing some research, it turned out that I may have some problems with using Freesync with this display.

This monitor has two ports: 1 x HDMI (not exactly sure what version) and 1 x DisplayPort. So I read some articles, some Reddit threads and it seems, that on Nvidia cards, Freesync will work only on Display Port. Ok, my laptop does not have regural display port but I can connect via USB-C - Display Port cable so it's not the problem but...

In monitor manual there is something like this about Freesync compability:

"Adaptive-Sync (display port), Freesync premium (HDMI)"

Does it mean that if I connect my laptop to this monitor via display port, Freesync won't work?
