“Possible” indicators of an electricity problem in home

Separate area for niche lag issues including unexpected causes and/or electromagnetic interference (ECC = retransmits = lag). Interference (EMI, EMF) of all kinds (wired, wireless, external, internal, environment, bad component) can cause error-correction latencies like a bad modem connection. Troubleshooting may require university degree. Your lag issue is likely not EMI. Please read this before entering sub-forum.

“Possible” indicators of an electricity problem in home

Post by Riggedinho » 24 Jun 2024, 06:44

To be taken with a grain of salt because it is an extremely complex subject but it is a probability to consider.

Following my personal experience (I live in an old home where the electrical wiring is not up to standard but I nevertheless have good earthing) and after a pragmatic investigation on the subject here are signs which could indicate that something is wrong there.

- The light in home flickering (even if it is very rarely and just a flicker).
- Slight crackling on all USB headsets that you plug into your PC or your different PCs.
- Hot water tank which goes off for no reason even though the hot water has not been used for hours (on this point I do not know if hot water tanks can go off independently of the use of the hot water tank hot water).
- the video stream which stops for a few seconds or which crashes on a stream without problem and a very stable fiber optic connection.
- Have a much more responsive and reliable mouse with a polling rate at 500 Hz than 1000 Hz.
- Have one or more fans in your tower that do not turn on startup after a long period of inactivity (on average 10 hours).

This list is of course not exhaustive and there would be other examples cited but they did not come to me at the time of writing this topic.

My lights also flicker in my home. My UPS used to consistently trip its breaker due to power fluctuations, but that hasn't happened in a while. Only other weird issue I have is sometimes when I turn on my PC the monitor doesnt detect a signal and I have to unplug both ends of the DP cable, turn off the PC, plug it all back in and turn it back on. Sometimes that doesnt fix it and I have to actually disconnect the monitor's power cord as well. My main in-game symptoms are frametime spikes, and the game feeling stuttery/jittery. Enemy player animations and movement appears sped up.

If your lights flicker occasionally, then you call an electrician. If the fault is not on your side, then you call POCO and they MUST intervene because most likely they do not meet the terms of the contract in terms of the quality of the electricity supplied. This is how it works in first world countries.
