Windows Safe Mode healing Input Lag for short Time
Windows Safe Mode healing Input Lag for short Time
When entering Windows Safe Mode and just chilling for some time there and then Boot again to Normal Mode and after join CS2 or Valorant then I can clearly feel a boost about Hit-Reg and for some Rounds before it gets bad again. I believed in old days that this just another random placebo maybe but i just googled if someone had same Experience and i find this Topic https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/thre ... de.284396/
and now i think that something maybe must be true about that.
Even playing Browser Games in Safe Mode feels better and different than if playing in Normal Boot and through Browser.
Just test It for Yourself Guys. Maybe try uninstall and install Drivers or do some Windows Tuning and Tweaks meanwhile in Safe Mode and after boot again in Normal Mode and join your Online Game.
Is it only me or im maybe into something ? Or sounds that completely Crazy ?

Sometimes some programs and drivers do not load in safe mode. Let's say the nvidia panel is not loading. You need to watch what turns off
Re: Windows Safe Mode healing Input Lag for short Time
Yes i believe too that something going with drivers or maybe kernel level (dont know how to explain that) and something get triggered and after it works like almost normal. The thing i still dont understand why it only stays for some few minutes or 1/2 matches and after its back to bad again. Why it cant stay atleast for 5 or 10 matches this nice fixed state here ? That would already make me some happy...
And this all happens on 3 different systems which i own. one system is AMD and other two are Intel. and on both the same behavior and effects.
But i clearly could notice sometime huge short improvements after SAFE MODE or if REINSTALL random drivers like LAN, CHIPSET, REALTEK AUDIO, INTEL ME...
Yesterday i tried to download and reinstall those drivers again but from different Z390 motherboard manufacturer site which i dont even own here but those drivers triggered something without even doing windows restart. And after i jump directly into Valorant and everything was butter smooth and Hitreg worked fine for whole Match. It was just EZ.
But what happened after in the next Match just destroyed my Brain and again my Hope...All become very broken and i was not more able to Hitreg for whole Match it was just pure Hell. I bottom fragged and i end Match with only 7 Kills and like 19 deaths. wtf. That 0,3+ KD.
And the Match before i atleast manage to stay TOP with 2,0+ KD.
I dont get this more and this all drives me completely crazy. cant stop to think about this all...but can for sure say that this all not a placebo here and or coincidence what happened and happens.
Re: Windows Safe Mode healing Input Lag for short Time
I don't know how commonly this is known but when you start Windows, within a few minutes services like the Software Protection Service (sppsv) and multiple WmiPrvSvc entries pop up. Everything you do, such as opening folders and apps bring these back. I play games with all of these disabled and for a few months now I haven't experienced almost any inconsistency. I also have things like Intel ME disabled on a BIOS level.
However I think my mouse feel still depends on the process IDs I get after booting. I noticed that if I get values like 600 and 608 for csrss it's a lot better but when they are something different, the mouse feels off, so I keep rebooting until I get those two.

I can confirm that this solution works, even dragging a window around looks buttery smooth, i used to think that my 240hz monitor is not that good with motion, but after this, it feels very smooth. this is sad. I really hope we find a solution some day

Re: Windows Safe Mode healing Input Lag for short Time
Here the most crazy Thing. I dont have more my 240hz because destroy it
First I installed the original Chipset driver from my Motherboard (MSI) and it asked me to Restart Windows but i dont do that and after i Install the other the other random Chipset driver (from Asrock) and you believe me or not...but i never saw before such butter smooth 60HZ in my Life after such Process and Steps.
When i installed the other Chipset driver then it asked me during installation if i want to downgrade driver version and continue to install that driver and i just do that.
That all and I fking dont understand How and Why and What triggered this good State. It just happened Randomly like every other Crazy things I already Tried before...
Idk if this all Placebos or some "Wich Magic" things but i swear that my 60HZ become different after such Steps and i jump directly in Valorant and could already feel that it feels good and the Hitreg just start to work for me in the first Match but sadly for not very long...but atleast i could make some nice kills and even 1 ace for that moment and literally feel how every hit of me are getting connected. hard to explain this feeling but i think some guys on this forum can relate to this feeling and such state...
but That the Story and such Experience which i just had some day ago.

Tbh, yea. 60fps should also feel pretty responsive and playable

A powershell script to compare which drivers and services load in normal mode vs safemode, optionally it has a guided function that asks you if you want to disable each driver from the differential. Make a registry back up before using if attempting to disable services.

- I believe Safemode runs everything as "Administrator" and a slightly modified user environment.
- Safemode also loads the Microsoft Windows Basic Display drivers vs AMD/Nvidia, the mouse cursor and desktop become vsync-less unlike a standard desktop. You can see this if you move the cursor fast enough, it'll get tears.
- I think this also implies software rendered mouse vs hardware cursor (one that relies on amd/nvidia gpu to render)
- You can toggle software rendered mouse by enabling cursor trails in Windows mouse settings then setting cursor trails to "-1" in the registry, then restart. Here's a tool to do it instantly https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-SoftCursor. Your mouse cursor will probably feel very different, there is a side effect to this of course.. Some games rely on hardware cursors so your cursor may be invisible in some games when using software based cursor.

I feel like some kind of cache gets reset or something is happening. Stuff like reinstalling windows also resets this and heals the input lag for a short time
