XL2720Z PS4 Destiny

Post by Sharbs » 28 Oct 2014, 05:08

Hi,

I just downloaded the Strobe Utility, and since I am using the Benq monitor to play a PS4 means its only limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.

I like the utility since it makes it brighter when i have the blur reduction turned on, but I do notice significant eye strain probably due to the additional flicker.

Does unchecking the overide checkbox (on the Strobe utility) revert the monitor back to its original state?

Also, since the XL2720 is supposedly flicker free, without the Strobe utility is it really still flicker free if I have the blur reduction turned on?

Note:- the main reason why i am trying the Strobe utility is cause I find that the reduction in brightness is significant whenever I have the blur reduction turned on, and was hoping I could circumvent that somehow. But the flickering on a 60Hz refresh rate is too much for me.

The utility only works on PC. it will NOT work on a PS4.
You can adjust the blur reduction parameters through the utility and they will be stored in the monitor, or you can change it from the service menu. The VT tweaks are for PC ONLY, as they deal with the video driver resolution timings and can not be used on console, as the CRU/Nvidia resolution utility are PC driver based.

You can enter the service menu by holding down button 4 (top to botton on touch panel) while powering on the monitor, then releasing when the LED's flash. You'll probably want to chase strobe phase to 000.

Maybe I didnt make myself clear. I understand that the VT tweak only works on the PC since it deals with tweaking with the GPU driver. I however, am using the Strobe utility cause I feel the default blur reduction of the XL2720z is too dark, and with the utility it brightens it all up. What I didnt account for was the excessive flicker I get from this method, and so I want to now revert to the original settings of the monitor.

I have 2 very different questions.

1) If I uncheck the overdrive checkbox, will it revert to the original monitor settings prior to the strobe utility?

2) Is there still flicker with the default blur reduction (without strobe utility), or is it still flicker free? I am under the impression irregardless of blur reduction or not, it should still be flicker free but I feel i could be wrong.

Thanks.

Ah, well whenever you use blur reduction at 50 or 60 hz, it's going to flicker like a madman. I believe CRT's could get away with this by using "interlaced" mode (only having half the scanlines) but I'm just saying random stuff.

If you unclick 'allow customization", then 50 hz and 60 hz will "double strobe", which is sort of useless. It won't flicker but it won't exactly reduce blur, either. If you're hooked up to a console, just enter the service menu by holding down the 4th button from the top and the power button at the same time, then releasing the 4th button when the LED's flash. Then you can enter the service menu with that button later.

You can set single strobe independently, in the service menu, as well as adjusting parameters (single strobe=flickering).
Strobing naturally sets flicker. with the 'default', 60 hz will NOT be blur reduced but will double strobe (giving you a double image). If you want true blur reduction, you have to deal with the flicker :) Just like CRTs
