Enabling VRR while using 1/2 V-Sync w/ a 120hz panel

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Enabling VRR while using 1/2 V-Sync w/ a 120hz panel

Hello :)

I'm not sure where else to to ask, but perhaps someone will be able to help me out.

I play my games locked to 60fps on my G-Sync compatible monitor in 120hz, but unfortunately despite VRR working just fine, many of them have issues such as stuttery camera movement that is very noticeable to me and quite distracting. I know it's not the engine frametime spikes, because I've monitored it with afterburner and had this issue in multiple games and using Nvidia's profile inspector to enable 1/2 framerate while having it locked 60fps completely fixes the issue for me and the stutters completely go away, making games buttery smooth, but unfortunately that also disables the VRR, which results in any drops below that not looking good.
I understand that I could change the refresh rate of my monitor to 60hz, but that makes the input lag unpleasant, and it doesn't look as smooth either.
When I played on Xbox, with VRR enabled games it would be buttery smooth and the monitor would run at 120hz, but for example dropping the framerate to 55fps would result in a monitor syncing to 110hz, so perhaps there's a wider LFC range on console that works with VRR?

Either way, my question is: does anyone know if there is any way to use 1/2 or 1/3 V-Sync in Nvidia Profile Inspector with 120hz and keep VRR enabled? If it's any help, trying to run 1/2 or 1/3 V-Sync gives the following information in games:

ENABLED BY REG: YES
VRR ALLOWED: NO
VRR POSSIBLE: YES
VRR REQUESTED: NO

I appreciate anyone taking their time to read through it.

Fractional v-sync will disable g-sync. That's by design and you can't prevent it. With that said, I think the reason why the stutters go away with 1/2 vsync is that your display is not good at VRR. Try this:

Disable g-sync and use Special K to set an exact 1/2 FPS cap by right-clicking on the FPS value field:

If the stutter goes away, your problem is the display's VRR support itself.

You can also change the "presentation interval" value from 1 to 2, which means 1/2 vsync (it applies immediately and you don't need to restart the game, and for it to work vsync must be set to "use 3D application setting" in the nvidia control panel.)
