Another weird stuttering post

Post by jjuff » 05 Jan 2025, 22:19

Hello guys,

I am literally at a lost for words. At the beginning of february, i bought the following system: i9 14900k, MSI Z790I EDGE WIFI (but i use LAN anyway), 4070 TI Super OC Palit, 2x32 GB G.Skill Trident NEO 6000, PSU Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 80+ Gold 1000W, Kingston FURY Renegade Gen.4, 2TB, NVMe, M.2, monitor Benq XL2746S, mouse polling rate 500 (just in case).

Off the rip, i updated the bios, did a full reinstall of windows, and started playing some games. Then i notice that i am having some sort of stuttering going on. I couldn't pinpoint an action that would cause the stutter, it just happens regardless of what i do, if i move the mouse, the character, or anything else. I tried XMP, overclock, reverting to all default settings, high performance, DDU, removing front USB connectors from mobo, new 12VHPWR cable for the graphics card, i tried some Kingston Fury RAM sticks, different registry tweaks, i reinstalled windows multiple times... oh man, feels like i tried so much stuff. Nothing worked.

Being fed with all that, i just put the processor for sale and i bought a 9800x3d and a new motherboard, MSI B650I Edge Wifi, and another watercooler, Arctic II. Sure enough, the stuttering is still there, even with the new processor and mobo (during installation i basically removed all components and connect them again, re-seated ram etc).

The games are butter smooth between the stutters, and the audio does not stutter, only the image. At this point, i can't figure out what is going on. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, this is aboslutely insane. I will put some pictures here from Elden Ring and DayZ. The stutters are happening at any FPS number and in any game, these two are just some examples. I will also put some HWMonitor screenshots, maybe someone can figure something out from that, if there is a component that is misbehaving somehow.

This was a very good try, thanks for the suggestion. However the thing is i just have Rivatuner Statistics Server for monitoring, not MSI afterburner. The only thing i saw in RTSS related to this was the setup menu, where unfortunately i am not seeing any power options. So i am not sure if RTSS is even doing this power polling like the afterburner does. I will try maybe to get the software he mentioned in the video and see if it makes a difference. Or if someone knows if there is a setting like that in RTSS please let me know.

It only does if you have the Overlay Editor plugin enabled in the RTSS settings ("Plugins" tab.)

@Slender that is one thing i haven't tried, i am always on lan. i dont even know where my wifi adapter for the computer is. ill search for it and try that as well, though i doubt wi-fi is better than direct lan connection for gaming.

PSU Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 80+ Gold 1000W
This, or some WIndows sheningans, could be causing issues for you.

But, just to be sure, do you have a build or time-frame where you haven't had this stuttering that you experience right now?
What were your hardware & software specifications at the time?

I recently changed the PSU to a Be Quiet one and i still have the same stuttering. So i dont think its the PSU. No, thats the thing, i always had them. So i need to figure out where are they coming from. I changed PSU, SSD, processor and motherboard. Only things that i still have from the first build are the 4070 TI Super and the ram G.Skill NEO RGB CL30 6000(i just tested the ram with memtest5 yesterday, no errors, but maybe ill try another kit just to make sure).
