Motion Blur Reduction on BenQ XL2420G

Post by ciopenhauer » 06 Nov 2014, 09:28

I'm slightly confused by this. It seems there is only an option to use Motion Blur Reduction On or Off. No additional configuration available. The BlurBuster utility does not work with this monitor. Shouldn't this new monitor have Blur Reduction II and therefore have additional configuration available? If not, will the utility work at one point? Would I have to replace my firmware with the V2 firmware for the Z series, or would that be incompatible with the 2420G?

Try opening the service menu. I don't know the button combination in this monitor, but in the Z series it was menu button + power button. In the Z series monitors, there are strobe duty, strobe phase and single strobe options there, which configure blur reduction the same (and with more options) than the blurbusters utility.

Yeah, I saw those options when I did it to check the firmware. But I have no idea how to configure them from there. Any help would be appreciated.

If the XL2420G behaves the same way as the Z monitors:
Strobe duty goes from 001 to 030. It controls the strobe length. Shorter length = less motion blur and less brightness.
Strobe phase (from 000 to 100) controls the placing of crosstalk. Leave it at 000 if unsure.
Single strobe makes the monitor strobe once per frame instead of twice at refresh rates under 75Hz.

The big test:
WITHOUT using Vertical tweaks,
Go to testUFO, alien invasion, fullscreen (F11), disable internet explorer's bottom status bar.
Test for the 'double thick" crosstalk strobe artifacts (VERY different from the overdrive artifacts...its basically a SUPER thick bar around the UFO's and the vertical bars...)

VT tweaks on Z series monitors (1500) move them to the very top and bottom edge of the screen.
Is this needed on G and 2430T?

So, what would be some recommended settings I first try? Is the single strobe thing good? (I only game at 120hz+)

I will find out if Strobe Utility can be modified to be compatible with the XL2420G.
