Does HDMI 2.1 QFT benefit me?

Post by Jonnyc55 » 06 Mar 2025, 11:27

I read a bit of the guide on QFT on this forum by the admin, but it's complex.

If I'm using the 3060 which supports HDMI 2.1, and get a HDMI 2.1 cable and a HDMI 2.1 monitor, at 120HZ, will this automatically give me the benefit of reduced input latency that QFT offers? Or is there a catch or circumstance that makes use of QFT?

I ask because I could be seeking a 2.1 HDMI monitor and be wasting my time.

Thank you!

As I know, QFT is designed to reduce latency by allowing frames to be sent to the display more quickly. This feature is more beneficial in scenarios where high refresh rates and low latency are critical, such as competitive gaming.

Depends on display max refresh rate. If it's 120 Hz no, if higher yes - because QFT helps latency only at reduced refresh rates, it won't help at max refresh rate. The further away, the larger the benefit. On PC u can make your own QFT resolutions pretty easily. I've never tested HDMI auto QFT, so not sure how that works.

"Reducing latency by allowing frames to be sent to the display more quickly" description does not do good job explaining. QFT is just a faster top-bottom scan-out speed. The refresh frequency remains. Normally low refresh rates scan slower and high scan faster. QFT is trying to utilize faster scan-out of max refresh rate so frames can be seen earlier. Thats why it needs to be reduced.

Great thank you. So QFT only benefits if I opt to lower a refresh rate from the monitor's maximum. Hmm, food for thought thanks!
