Freesync Monitor & Nvidia Gpu Tearing

Talk about AMD's FreeSync and VESA AdaptiveSync, which are variable refresh rate technologies. They also eliminate stutters, and eliminate tearing. List of FreeSync Monitors.

Freesync Monitor & Nvidia Gpu Tearing

Post by sailorscenarist » 03 Jun 2025, 10:11

Hello, I need your help with an issue that confuses me. I switched to a laptop with a Gsync display. However, before this, I had a viewsonic freesync 144hz monitor and a case with a gtx1660 card. I noticed that on my old case, I was seeing screen tearing regardless of fps. I thought it happened when I connected the laptop to my monitor because I hadn't noticed the tearing in 4 years. However, when I looked at my old videos, there were actually screen tearing. I guess I didn't pay attention. (4 years...)

All I'm wondering is this: Is it normal for me to see screen tearing regardless of fps with (30,60,120 160fps) a freesync monitor and nvidia card that doesn't support gsync? I'm just curious about the answer to this question.

Sorry for my English. My monitor is freesync but not gsync compatible… My graphics card is Nvidia. Is it normal to see screen tearing regardless of fps?

If G-SYNC is not supported and V-SYNC is disabled, yes, screen tearing is normal, regardless of FPS.

Thank you much for your answer. I knew that Freesync and nvidia cards did not work, but I was wondering if it is normal to see a lot of tearing within the screen hz(1-144fps). Thank you very much.

You can force g-sync in the nvidia control panel for displays that only support freesync. But I believe this option only shows with DisplayPort, not with HDMI.
