What happens if you alt tab out of your game and back in?
When I create this resolution and test it in valley benchmark, it shows 1920x1080 @100hz refresh rate even though im on the desktop at 120hz (!) For some reason, it's like valley is trying to use a 100hz refresh rate (which since that 1600x900 isn't defined at 100hz in CRU, its using a 1920x1080 downsampled instead. When I alt tab back in the game, it shows 1600x900@120 in the OSD as this time it actually decides to use what I asked..
it also shows 1600x900 in osd if I use it in the ati CCC as well, right away, without any problems.
Ok, there seems to be some weirdness with how the Benq is handling custom resolutions in Directx 10 and newer games.
DirectX 9 games will use the desktop's refresh rate, and if the resolution is listed in CRU, it will use that resolution instead of 1920x1080 downsampled, so your 1600@900@100 will happily report 1600x900@100 on the OSD. So a DirectX 9 game will use the desktop refresh rate and will report the custom resolution correctly.
However I found some very bizarre results in directX 10+ games.
At 1280x1024 and LOWER resolutions: if your target resolution is listed in Standard resolutions as 100hz, the Benq will use 120hz.
If your target resolution is 120hz, the benq will use 100hz.
If you have BOTH 100 and 120hz listed in your target resolution at the same time, the Benq will use 144 hz. (what)
If the resolution is not listed at all, the benq will use 100hz. At 1280x1024 and higher (if not listed), it will use the desktop refresh rate.
If you list 1600x900@100, it will show up in the OSD in windows as 1600x900@100, but in a game, good luck. It will either be a downsampled 1920x1080@100, or if you have 1600x900@100 and 1600x900@120 listed together, it will run at 144hz if windows is set to 120hz....
The VG248QE acts nothing like this. The VG248 uses 85hz (in a game. at a lower resolution) if windows is set to 60hz...or it uses the desktop refresh rate if the refresh rate is set higher (85+).
I haven't tried this with detailed resolutions...can't be bothered.
