The last time I used a Zowie monitor (around 5 years ago) it became a lot dimmer using dyac, so yes it's normal. Sad to see this is still the case.Grasshopper85 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025, 14:15I just got this 600hz tn display.
I don't have the alt tabbing issue. RTX 4090 TUF OC, 600hz enabled.
I am trying out dyac2 premium for the first time ever. Its very dimm even compared to my 27" 480hz oled. Is this normal? Is this how pro gamers play their matches?

Yes. Every blank screen takes away brightness. 1 blank per (divided into) 1 frame = 50% brightness. Which in turn = 50% blur reduction.
I do not know who the "" would want flickering/dimming on their screen for a mere doubling of clarity. So you have to push more. 5 blanks for 1 to 5x your 60fps to 300fps. Or 10x like dyac here.
So when you use strobing to get 60fps to say 600fps clarity. You are reducing your brightness to 10%. Which if you have a 400 nits display means 40 nits. (Sort of but in practice monitors will have a brightness cap. Meaning the display might be capable of 1000nits or whatever but will only allow 400 nits. In that monitor your brightness would be 100 nits instead of 40.)
Check https://testufo.com/blackframes . that is why it is dim. You can disable the autodimming to see.
So yeah strobing isn't some pure plus thing like my friend /supermodel_evelynn who found out the hard way. Lol. Maybe they have a 240hz oled now. who knows.

Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
Hey fellas, I have some more quries regarding this 600hz zowie.
Firstly, did anyone here find out if using hdmi 2.1 vs dp 1.4 add input lag? I usually find or hear that dp is usually the fastest for input response.
Secondly, since I only play pubg and @ 1728x1080, and I will usually only be able to stay in the fps range of 350-500 fps for this game, should I change the monitors EDID to 500hz instead of 600hz? Will that serve better for input lag, or should I keep the EDID at 600hz?

Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
if u have 500hz edid turn on, on monitor DSC turns off and u can use 4k resolution input lag falls very down. IF u want to use 600hz use HDMi 2.1 have better response but colors are not the same. DP 1.4 is old technology for older gpus.. 2.1 is for latest.. 2.1 have lower input lag vs dp 1.4... dp 1.4 use x4 more dsc than hdmi 2.1 at same hz.. dp 1.4 max bandwith usage almost 26gb while hdmi 2.1 use 32.Grasshopper85 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025, 22:04Hey fellas, I have some more quries regarding this 600hz zowie.

HDMi 2.1 is latest technology use that.. not dp 1.4 dp 1.4 is for older gpu and takes times to alt tab..if u want dsc off use EDID 500hz and u can go for 4k resolution...2.1hmdi is faster in input lag simple because it has more bandwidth. If u got asus 540hz is much slower when u change to desktop and back to game.. same is with oled, Using Dp1.4 have better colors vs hdmi. HDMI 2.1 have better input lag. And never use any software that void warranty any custom resolution ur warranty is dead. Read manual in BENQ zowie... yes i had oled and still have oled TV.. OLED is good for 1 hour of games than i get eyestrain it flickers, more hz u have more eyestrain u get.. in benq zowie i can last 6 hours before i get tired. TN panel more hz u have less eyestrain u have.
Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
Does it have DSC on/off toggle ?
Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
"DSC toggles" (whose implementation we don't know, there are multiple ways to implement it) are usually implemented only in ASUS and sometimes in MSI models.
BenQ relies on spec of DP & HDMI, which dictates forced DSC.
Technically, if they've implemented HDMI 2.1 FRL6 on their 86X+, they shouldn't need DSC at all has it has the bandwidth.
The 86X (540hz E-TN) was stuck at HDMI 2.1 FRL4 sadly...

Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
This is not actually true. BFI on LCDs is not tied to frame rate like it is on OLED. For instance, the pulse width of the backlight flashing is independent of the LCD panel--it can be a 1/10th of a frame. So these ratios are not gospel. I remember reading that BFI can take these screens down from 370 nits to 100 nits though.purplemelon1 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025, 19:18Grasshopper85 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025, 14:15I just got this 600hz tn display.

40 nits would be truly unusable. I don't even get that on the Viewsonic with BFI on

Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
You are right. I was thinking of the old much more harsh versions like ulmb and early dyac. You do not need the whole backlight off to double the clarity. But i do guess you need more v blanks. Which depends on the maker.bfilippe wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025, 16:34This is not actually true. BFI on LCDs is not tied to frame rate like it is on OLED. The one viewsonic 1080p 240hz with the blurbluster stamp does actually go to 50 nits i believe. At 60hz specifically. But in turn you get 1200hz clarity.
In my opinion, it is not worthwhile if the persistence doesn't go to 3ms. It is not worthwhile disccusing without a specific display. All implementations could be different

Re: XL2586X+ (600hz) questions
Should I use EDID of 500Hz from this monitor if I only play pubg which mostly will only get between 300-500fps. Occasionally it goes upto 600fps, but not too often.EverSurface wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025, 10:15DSC is off on nvidia if u use EDID 500hz u can use 4k resolution and input lag is better on hdmi vs dp.1.4 example game to desktop and back to game..
So I am wondering, if input lag wise, is it better to change edid to 500hz?
