Nvidia reflex increases latency in OW2 or what am I looking at?

Everything about latency. This section is mainly user/consumer discussion. (Peer-reviewed scientific discussion should go in Laboratory section). Tips, mouse lag, display lag, game engine lag, network lag, whole input lag chain, VSYNC OFF vs VSYNC ON, and more! Input Lag Articles on Blur Busters.

Nvidia reflex increases latency in OW2 or what am I looking at?

Post by svagen » 24 Jun 2025, 14:10

After testing different nvidia reflex settings in ow2 with PresentMon I assume that enabling nvidia reflex (on/on+boost) or ow2 reduce buffering setting increases latency.

My setup:
gtx 1080ti
i7 8700k
16gb 3200Mhz
240hz monitor

ingame settings:
fullscreen, all low, 70% render scale, 239 fps cap

no gsync no vsync, nvcp 3d set for performance

PresentMon results:

Hardware: Legacy Flip

Nvidia reflex on+boost:
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.032
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.82

Nvidia reflex on:
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.023
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.83

Reduce buffering on(reflex off):
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.016
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.72

Nvidia reflex off | reduce buffering off:
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.018
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.45

I did the same test in valorant and got opposite results:

settings all low, 239 fps cap

Hardware: Legacy Flip

Nvidia reflex on+boost:
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.012
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.23

Nvidia reflex off:
MsRenderPresentLatency = 0.012
MsUntilDisplayed = 0.45

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I understand correctly that if I want the least latency(on my system) in ow2 I should set reflex and reduce buffering off?

It depends on your HW's capabilities.
Let's dissect each:

Here's some RB disabled vs enabled data, provided by @Calypto

As for Reflex, it depends whether you are experiencing a GPU-limitation (can be spotted by evaluating GPUTime or GPUBusy metrics in PreesntMon)
I'm not sure if the 1080Ti is limited at 240FPS cap in OW2, especially at lower render scale.
