I have an HP Omen Max 16, Intel Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5080, 32Gb Micron ram.
The system should support XMP but I don't see that it's on, but the ram is going the 5600mt's The ram timings are attached, (like 45/45/45). For a MSRP of around $3k this ram seemed to be slower than some aftermarket ram.
I could get some after market ram that was a little faster but the HP Bios doesn't seem to even let me activate the XMP profile in the secret advanced menu I had to look up. I read the MSI systems support full over clocking but HP is usually locked up and wants you to use their "HP Omen Gaming Hub" with all the boosting featuers - but I didn't see XMP anywhere. The software does activate a radical overclock but I usually play in balanced mode at 99% cpu power to keep the system cool. Frame rates are adequate for me but I do not see that the XMP ram profile is active, however, the ram is running at max speed.
I got the system for 50% off looking for a mobile solution, performance is great. Just didn't know about the XMP setting or if it was really beneficial for the games. I'm still seeming to experience latency and desync quite horribly. I have good games and bad games but the desync is still awful.
The reason I was asking was that some games, I.E., CoD/Warzone, BF6/REDSEC, may benefit from the ram profiles being active, or faster ram as well. CoD had a known issue with the ram causing issues over the years. As for personal experience I had played on multiple systems and could tell a difference between systems with the latency, or it may just be a fluke.
I wasn't sure myself.
Thx

I also posted this on Reddit /techsupport with some replies. It was a mix of insulting remarks and others saying the ram was fine and not the real issue. It was boiled down to my computer sucks, I'm delusional, or it was a 50/50 between ISP/Server side lag, likely not client side, if I'm defaulted.
I don't know why I ask the internet. Most of the issues I experience in Warzone/ Redsec are known issues. I was just trying to deduce whether it was client side or server side, as the solutions are not verified.

I suggest that you don't bother with enabling XMP, stick to whatever your laptop works by default.
HP UEFI is limited. Laptops aren't meant to be overclocked & used for low latency gaming.

Re: Does XMP need to be on? [Laptop]
It's hard to tell what may be beneficial or a placebo in online gaming. I chalk it up to good games and bad games based on the internet connection.
The laptop is a gaming laptop, the Omen series was targeting gaming. It has the Intel Ultra 275HX and RTX 5080, I got it for %50 off. Performance is great except Warzone and Redsec/BF6, exclusively. Mobile performance for those games seems subpar. I can play most stuff 4k 60fps+ depending on the game.
Otherwise performance is great, I paid about as much for a desktop equivalent. At MSRP the laptop is $2.5-3k or so + tax. I got it half off and can't really complain at my expense. I could definitely sell it and break about even and put a high octane low latency gaming PC back together. But for online gaming I'm leaning more and more towards console only for online BR/TDM, it seems more balanced to me unless you can go 240hz+ on fiber online.
