Changes made with the utility aren't sticking...

Post by TenmillionDead » 08 Dec 2014, 16:49

I very recently bought a benq xl2411z. The first things I did were get an icc profile, do the 1350 vertical trick at 120hz, and adjust the blur busters utility accordingly using the online tests. I know that icc profiles don't work in most games which is fine, but for some reason when I use blur reduction in game it uses the monitors default (very dark) settings instead of the ones I set with the utility. It works fine on the desktop, but as soon as a game starts it switches to the default values. Is it normal for the utility to not work in games? I'm a bit of a noob at this so I apologize if I've missed anything.

I use Nvidia CP to set it, it will hide the default 120Hz and shows the custom 120Hz in-games. It works wonder. I am not sure about AMD driver.

ToastX CRU maybe?

In game make sure you are using 120hz, change it in the game's graphics settings. Go fullscreen, not windowed borderless. I did this in Far Cry 4 because it uses 60hz by default on first run.

Thanks for the replies. I tried this in DMC 4, which has an option for 120hz , but it still used the default blur reduction settings in that game as well as all other games I've tried (red faction: guerrilla, l4d2, mass effect 1 + 2, and The Darkness 2 to name a few). I ran all these games in fullscreen and changed the refresh rate if there was an option. I think I'm probably missing something very obvious.

Hmm. Is DDC/CI set to "on" in XL2411z OSD under System? If off, enable it.

Go into the monitor OSD and please post the refresh rate it reports.
If it reports 120hz, then the VT total tweak isn't working.
PLEASE post what the OSD reports when you launch a game!
If the VT tweak is working, it will show 60hz.

Also you may want to enter the service menu, just to be sure, and set single strobe to ON.

There's an issue (which is why the windows utility automatically enables single strobe) where if single strobe is set to OFF, while you can customize all strobe settings through the service menu and have them instantly apply, if you turn off and on blur reduction, it suddenly uses default values, until any change is made to either brightness, strobe duty or strobe phase, where it suddenly uses the custom settings again. This does not happen If you have single strobe off, and enable blur reduction through a profile or gamer profile on the S-switch (or osd), as the profiles also reinitialize the brightness.

Only seems to happen with single strobe set to off.

Also if you enable GPU scaling, for some reason the strobe utility stops being able to find the monitor. Might need to reboot in that case (or just use the service menu).

Both on the desktop and in-game the osd reports 1080p at 60hz. I've changed single to strobe to on, as it was previously off. I'm not sure I understood completely, is there anything else left to do after that?
