XL2430 vs XL2430-T Firmware Update

Post by Dignitas » 23 Feb 2026, 15:16

Hi guys,

today I successfully updated my older XL2430-T (with V-001 firmware) to the latest XL2430 (non T) V14 version via Linux.
When executing

Code: Select all

sudo ./flashrom -p mstarddc_spi:dev=/dev/i2c-1:49
it showed found A25L016 as flash chip.
Everything just went fine.

But when I execute the same command line call with my newer XL2430 it shows me the following:

Code: Select all

Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L1605" (2048 kB, SPI) on mstarddc_spi.
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L1605A/MX25L1606E" (2048 kB, SPI) on mstarddc_spi.
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L1605D/MX25L1608D/MX25L1673E" (2048 kB, SPI) on mstarddc_spi.
Multiple flash chip definitions match the detected chip(s): "MX25L1605", "MX25L1605A/MX25L1606E", "MX25L1605D/MX25L1608D/MX25L1673E"
Please specify which chip definition to use with the -c <chipname> option.
So which one of these three is the correct one to use?
I thought XL2430 and XL2430-T are basically identical in regard of hardware...

If anyone is looking for the solution, I bought myself a Mstar ISP Tool, to do the upgrade, just to be save in this case.

The XL2430 is detected as "MX25L1606E" in Mstar ISP Tool, where as the XL2430-T is detected as "A25L016".

So my guess would be to use "MX25L1605A/MX25L1606E" as flash chip ;)
