CS Lagging/Not feeling Smooth
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here can help me figure this out because I’m honestly running out of ideas.
My setup:
Monitor: XL2566K (240Hz)
GPU: RTX 5080
CPU: i9-13900K
I play CS2 at a high level (Faceit level 10), so I’m very sensitive to how the game feels. The issue is that my game constantly feels laggy or inconsistent, even though my hardware should easily handle it.
What I’m experiencing:
The game does not feel like it’s running at a stable 240Hz most of the time
I often notice stutter/lag exactly when I die, especially when the kill notification pops up
Every time I pull out my knife, I can feel a noticeable lag or hitch
Overall, the game just feels unsmooth and off, even when FPS is high
What I’ve already tried:
FPS capped vs uncapped
Different FPS limits
Various BIOS settings
Changing mouse DPI
General in-game and system optimizations
Bought new Display Port Cable
Nothing seems to fix the issue — it still feels like something is wrong with frame pacing or refresh consistency.
Has anyone experienced something similar, especially with high-end setups?
I’d really appreciate any advice or a proper direction to finally fix this.
Thanks in advance!

Re: CS Lagging/Not feeling Smooth
Frame pacing choppiness or refresh rate inconsistency is caused by power delivery issues and not by windows or any kind of setting, even though people here simply always dismiss this as " in 90% of causes, it is not electricity fault" - but yes, in reality it absolutely is lol...and then, they will try 100 placebo BIOS settings, regedit settings, CMD commands, 10 different drivers and fiddling with random useless Windows settings etc., but in the end, they NEVER fix the issue anyway...guess why?
This is probably 20th+ thread with exactly the same issues, and no one ever fixed anything...but many people switched apartments and then it suddenly works fine...again, guess why?

Have you tried putting -noreflex in launch options?GOMBA wrote: ↑25 Mar 2026, 17:38Hi everyone,

Try disabling MPO. It's helped me recently. Always worth a try.

To disable:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm" /v "OverlayTestMode" /t REG_DWORD /d "5" /f
To enable:
Reg.exe delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm" /v "OverlayTestMode" /f

Re: CS Lagging/Not feeling Smooth
Here are some suggestions to troubleshoot:
1) clear directx shader cache after every major update.
2) I know you tried different fps limits, but for a sanity check see if you notice a huge difference between running the game at 236 fps with gsync on (or 240 without gsync), and running at 480 fps cap. Test on pracc or warmupserver deathmatch. Having the game run above monitor refresh rate is the lowest latency setting but it does mean choppines and microstutters, no way around it. Maybe you'd prefer consistent framepacing instead.
3) download amd frame latency meter (flm) and test to see if you have an obvious input lag issue. Just load an empty map, run flm, press alt+t, wait 10s, press alt+t again. At 400 fps, you should get about 4ms of latency, for reference. Anything much higher than that means and you have a major input latency issue caused by something outside of CS2.

This is just straight ignorance. I’ve seen more than enough people move apartments even multiple times and have this issue.
“they will try 100 placebo BIOS settings, regedit settings, CMD commands, 10 different drivers and fiddling with random useless Windows settings etc., but in the end, they NEVER fix the issue anyway“
What about the countless people trying ups, inverter, filters, ferrites, transformers, rewiring their whole apartment “but NEVER fix the issue anyway” ?

Re: CS Lagging/Not feeling Smooth
Because their problem is ISP routing related.
There are only two types of people, and both apparently have similar problem but completely different cause:
A) They have problems ONLY in video games - or better say, in that one specific shooting game known for poor optimization
B) They have problems EVERYWHERE, including in bios, Windows UI is laggy and choppy, AAA single player games feel like they are at 50hz, mouse is delayed and floaty in desktop 24/7, desync between video and audio also in youtube etc. etc.
And the people under "A" have internet problems, while people under "B" have electricity problems...and the issue is not fixable for both, becuase game server prioritizing and ISP routing is out of our hand and it works in a completely unknown way to us, it might be that some places are "chosen" by geolocation to work bad, for whatever technical reasons. While the problems with electricity are also not fixable, as you would need to replace wiring in entire building AND rebuild the entire transformer substatition, which is also out of our hands.

What about C) ISP is affected by electricity issues?
