So i wrote this on reddit, but it didnt get much attention - i bet its better to post this here, because there are more specialised / educated people:
Theres like a judder despite having a clean frametime and fps on cap.
I tried VRR on/off, cap at 357 / 345 (vrr cap), async / front edge sync, Low Latency Mode on/off, different drivers (not the latest because of RTX 40 series).
Its just not smooth.
BUT - this user (on reddit) has the same problem and thankfully provided a solution : /r/Monitors/comments/1rrtdtl/msi_mpg_341cqr_qdoled_x36_issue/
-> With RTSS Nvidia Reflex and VRR off (didnt try VRR on) it finally looks smooth.
I guess the question is, is that a common problem with very high refresh screens, or specific to MSI or that model... and why dont the reviewer mentioned that... this looks like a big problem to me.
Side Note: Just like the user in the other post im coming from an aw3423dw (G-Sync Ultimate) ... maybe we are just too spoiled (maybe the g-sync module is smoothing out things?)
Side Note 2: With VRR enabled the OSD of the monitor shows 360hz every few ms (despite having a cap with RTSS at 357 / 345), which makes me wonder if VRR is even working properly - hitting the max refresh rate normally means VRR is disabled i think (which means it gets disabled every few ms lol)

Might be worth trying to cap the framerate from Nvidia control panel instead of RTSS.
This video also comes to mind: https://youtu.be/bQH3DYNboM0?t=763 but I doubt it has anything to do with this situation.
Also generally when it comes to stutter (and similar issues) make sure your have the bare minimum running in the background, turn off RGB software, keyboard/mouse software, etc.
Make sure you have the bare minimum essentials plugged in, mouse and keyboard only, ONE monitor plugged in to try and eliminate whether there is interference from other software and devices.

The external frame limiter value you've chosen is insufficient to be able to ensure a "bug-free" VRR experience at these high refresh rates.
Start with a value of <324FPS @ 360Hz.
What specific game are you trying to optimise for?
Generally, you have 2 paths to eliminate tearing:
1.) Fixed refresh rate solutions — RTSS' Scanline-Sync & Special-K's Latent-Sync
2.) Variable refresh rate solutions — GSYNC+VSYNC+Reflex (either internal or externally toggled using RTSS / SK') is your best friend.
Otherwise (vast majority of other games), I suggest rocking GSYNC+VSYNC+LLM=Ultra (at least in titles which employ a kernel anti-cheat solution)

Thanks for the answers.
I dont think its stutter related (but i noticed i indeed have an .1% low problem .. even in Kombustor it cant hold 172FPS .1% (drops to ~165) - which is my "reference" cap one year ago - where it worked / maintained stable(!) 172).
When it would be stutter related, it wouldnt work with RTSS Reflex + VRR off either - i guess.
I tried the VRR Cap suggested in RTSS (Mouseover on Framelimit) - maybe i try again with <324 FPS (but have no hopes).
The Game im trying to optimize for is PUBG (yes you can laugh now) - yes this game is a mess, but the problem exists even with a clean RTSS Frametime Graph... and even with no mouse input (driving a car left/right).
I was looking around in this forum - i think it could be this problem: http://www.blurbusters.com/stroboscopics
And RTSS Reflex is minimizing it?

That's nothing to be laughing about. You have a use-case and you've stated it. This information helps pinpointing which methods you have available.
I suggest trying the GSYNC+VSYNC+LLM=Ultra setup, as that will result in a autocap.
If above scenario is something you dislike the feel of, try doing the following as an alternative:
- Enable Frame Limiter => NVIDIA reflex
- Inject NVIDIA Reflex sleeep call => after presentation (least amount of lag)
- Set Framerate limit (in RTSS main menu) to '999'
This way, you'll inject Reflex into a non-Reflex capable game (PUBG) and you should achieve the same 324FPS@360Hz scenario as with LLM=Ultra
It cannot minimise the stroboscopic effect.bizzare82 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2026, 05:33I was looking around in this forum - i think it could be this problem: http://www.blurbusters.com/stroboscopics

The stroboscopic effect is minimised by pushing the highest refresh rate possible, akin to polling rate of mice.
