If you cant see or feel the difference between 1k and 8k polling thats fine. To most however its very obvious.soul4kills wrote: ↑25 Apr 2026, 10:30Pretty sure what you’re feeling is mostly placebo. The reason is that 8000hz polling is overkill. At that rate the mouse picks up every tiny micro‑movement and finger twitching, which isn’t useful and can hurt smoothness and accuracy.netborg wrote: ↑25 Apr 2026, 07:56Well, it's not just a gimmick, but rarely the games handle it correctly. So if a game feels floaty with it, try 1000 Hz.soul4kills wrote: ↑10 Apr 2026, 03:208000hz polling is just a gimic, and offers no gains. Only really high end cpus can handle it. And not a lot of games are designed to handle that large burst of mouse positions.
If a game really supports 8000 Hz correctly, you definitely can feel it's crispier and smoother.
Motion Sync is crap, disable it if you can.
My OP1 8k v2 works wonderfully with the 3950 sensor.
Because of that, a lot of mice and drivers/firmware downsample and smooth the data before it reaches the game, so you’re probably not seeing true 8000 Hz behavior anyway. It's most likely 4000–2000 Hz after preprocessing. And honestly, it may even be inaccurate because of the downsampling and data smoothing. Then there is the added delay from the preprocessing.
2000hz - 1000hz is more than enough. 8000 Hz is mostly a marketing gimmick with very limited real‑world gains. Literally no professional gamer uses it in a competitive setting. They might use an 8k mouse but they use it at 1000hz. Are the professionals wrong? They're better than you at being able to see if 8000hz actually makes a difference. But they still choose not to use it? I wonder why.
If your mouse firmware offers you the ability to actually use the mouse with raw 8000hz, try it, you'll probably hate it.

Re: pmw 3950 sensor always feel floaty
It's placebo. I'll explain.
2 things to consider. Smoothness. More reports = smoother mouse feel. Latency. Lower report intervals = lower latency. These are the 2 things that 8k polling will benefit in "theory". In practice not so much.
Your limiting factors that prevent this from happening. 1ms is the lowest timer resolution on stock windows 11 globally and on the desktop. Then your frame times. We'll use 500hz as an example which equals to 2ms.
8k polling = 0.125ms
To actually experience the smoothness, your overall system interval has to equal that of 0.125ms. But you have the limiting factor of 1ms at the system level, and 2ms at the game level. So no, if you say you experience smoothness. Impossible. It's like saying you have a 1000fps game running on a 144hz monitor. You visually can not see the difference because the monitor is the limiting factor. So the best interval of frames you will see is 2ms. Which is not 0.125ms.
For lower latency. You will not experience the lower latency due to quantizing. 8k polling, you will quantize at most 1ms between each report. So no, you can not experience that lower latency. The only benefit is reducing quantizing/jitter. But that can be achieved with 2000mhz for 1ms timer. 4000hz for a system timer of 0.500ms.
Then actually being able to hit that 8k polling. You need a 3200dpi setting. If not you won't even be able to saturate that 8k polling. Even if you have 3200dpi polling. You will only ever experience 8k at extremely fast flicks. So unless you constantly flick your mouse back n forth at all times during a gaming session. Then no, you are not experiencing any benefit from 8k polling. The majority of your normal mouse movement through out a session will not exceed more than 2000hz. And 8k polling is just for the sensor, not for your clicks, your clicks are 2000hz at best. The difference you feel, is actually your system performing worse and you're mistaking that difference as it performing better.

when i play overwatch for example, i go to the shooting range and alternate polling between 1000 and 8000hz, the difference is clearly visible. the camera pans at 8k astoundingly more smoother than 1000hz. Glaringly so in fact. Seeing is believing i'm afraid.soul4kills wrote: ↑17 May 2026, 16:04It's placebo. I'll explain.

1000hz - 2000hz is a perceivable difference. Because it mitigates the problem of quantizing misses to windows 1ms timer.
from 2000hz to 8000hz, you would not experience any difference. Any advantages you get from 8000hz is already achievable with 2000hz.
https://testufo.com/mouserate
Run this test with 2000hz. Snap a picture. Then run the test at 8000hz. Snap a picture. In the 8000hz, green reports between the yellow reports should have increased in theory. But I doubt they will because again, you're quantized by windows 1ms timer. So there is a maximum limit of how many reports it will register. So if your green reports did not increase between your yellow reports, then no, you're not experience anything different from 2000hz.

Once again Between 2k and 8k, instead of the 1k and 8k i initially spoke of, there is a difference albeit extremely reduced in comparison, however when panning the camera in compatible games i can still perceive a difference in smoothness.soul4kills wrote: ↑24 May 2026, 22:261000hz - 2000hz is a perceivable difference. With regard to pro settings, a lot of pros still prefer 500hz as opposed to 1k, that in itself doesnt subtract from the fact that 1k is visually smoother when mouse is in motion but rather the feel of 500hz being more responsive/ consistent.

If you're so confident why don't you show the snaps of 2000hz vs 8000hz of the mouse test. lol you could prove me wrong right now and make me look stupid. It should be 4x more green reports between the yellow marks.Vocaleyes wrote: ↑25 May 2026, 02:00Once again Between 2k and 8k, instead of the 1k and 8k i initially spoke of, there is a difference albeit extremely reduced in comparison, however when panning the camera in compatible games i can still perceive a difference in smoothness.

There's no need to get the hump buddy, I'm simply informing you of my observations which to reiterate results in observable smoother camera panning. I really have no need to prove anything regarding this topic and what was a simple observation has now become mildly exhausting. Good luck going forward!soul4kills wrote: ↑25 May 2026, 09:36If you're so confident why don't you show the snaps of 2000hz vs 8000hz of the mouse test. lol you could prove me wrong right now and make me look stupid. Why even reply and make a claim if you're not willing to back up your claim? I'm even helping you out to show you how you could do that.Vocaleyes wrote: ↑25 May 2026, 17:39There's no need to get the hump buddy, I'm simply informing you of my observations which to reiterate results in observable smoother camera panning. At least I'm providing factual numbers and logic to why 2000hz-8000hz is placebo. And everyone's argument is just, trust me bro.
But I think you kind of exposed the reason why. Because all of you are testing the change from 1000hz - 8000hz. Of course you'll feel a difference. Because that difference is really happening at 2000hz. But once you actually tested 2000hz - 8000hz you felt not change, but you're so inclined to not be wrong you still said there is a difference, when really there is not.

I've tried tons of mice with so many different sensors, and both the 3395 and 3950 feel just as floaty btw.

Ive been trying, chaging between mice for more than a decade
Playing since CS 1.5, QUAKE, until today with some CoD and Battlefield 1
And I never had a mice so good, so precise, so amazing like the OP1 8K V2
And I have the Logitech Superstrike too
