NEW 500hz ASUS OLED vs 240HZ BENQ. OLED BAD CLARITY?

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, ToastyX, black frame insertion (BFI), and now framerate-based motion blur reduction (framegen / LSS / etc).

NEW 500hz ASUS OLED vs 240HZ BENQ. OLED BAD CLARITY?

Post by XLEK » 23 Aug 2025, 12:59

I'm the #1 Black Widow in Marvel Rivals, XLEK, and I can't figure out why the new ASUS XG27AQDPG OLED Monitor has worse clarity than my older 240hz BenQ.

**VRR OFF, GYNC OFF, VSYNC OFF**
Using provided display port cable that came with the Asus Monitor

Asus XG27AQDPG (2025)

1440P @ 500hz = blurry
1080P @ 500hz = blurry
1440P @ 240hz ELMB ON = blurry
1080P @ 240hz ELMB ON = blurry

*not showing all pictures for tests, 500hz is enough proof imo*

BenQ XL2540K (2020)

1080P @ 240hz + Dyac (Dev Mode Combo/not in settings) = Clear
Instant Mode On & Premium AMA.

What I've checked:
I have already reset the new OLED monitor back to factory settings.
I made sure all the resolutions in Nvidia Control Panel were matching in the tests above.

I understand that I get more FPS on 1080p in-game versus 1440p, which is honestly pretty bad since I lose 100FPS and that bothers me more than the clarity but it doesn't make sense my TestUFO is blurry.

PC Specs:
i914900KS
3600hz cl14 32GB (2x16) DDR4 - OC 4200hz 16-16-16-32
MSI Trio 3090 Core +60 / Memory 240+

You seem to be misunderstanding the behavior of sample & hold VS impulsed displays
Because the sample (refresh) rate of OLED and your game's FPS is not good enough to get the eye-tracked motion clarity performance of your BenQ when you're 240+FPS @ 240Hz.
Refer to this topic: https://blurbusters.com/the-stroboscopi ... -displays/

To get anywhere near the eye-tracked performance of your BenQ (with DyAc enabled), you'd need to run your game at +1k FPS on a +1kHz OLED display.

Best widow is sora from latin América, but u are good Yes.

I bought oled and 600hz benq, so u dont have too.

Oled is faster and is darker, benq has advantage only in specific games as valorant and cs.

For hero shooter i recommend oled cause its well colorem and is really the fastest.

About motion clarity both are equally good, i think u are Just adapting

Got the monitor too, 500hz 2k mode on. In most of the FPS games don't have 500 fps, but averaging 234-335-420-487 - still feels good. No Elmb, and it rocks, not sure what unclarity you have, but i feel it's smooth as hell, got benq 240hz dyac+ too, it's fast, but oled 2k feels wow in many games, can see enemies so much clearer, just on 240hz oled feels like it has ghosting at crosshair. Used hdmi 2.1 cable by Asus

Wow, that's the opposite of what I'd expect to hear... and you're well within HDMI 2.1 bandwidth at that refresh rate. Did you make sure DSC is off? Maybe it's the ELMB implementation. Also, isn't it 250hz (half of 500)? Unless you're using a custom value

DSC seems on, i don't touch much settings, if it works, don't break it.. FPS Visual Mode or Cinema, toggling between two only, 40/50% brightness. Variable Refresh Rate - sometimes off, sometimes on, i don't see difference... Hertz options are 13 or 14, desktop display settings in .png file below.

Black frame insertion don't you need half the fps at certain refreshrate for oled? So you need 250fps or change resolution to 480hz than lock 240fps for BFI?

Or I am wrong?

It's a setting you enable in the monitor - so if I enable ELMB on my Asus OLED then it changes my refresh rate to 240hz (and disables VRR, enables uniform brightness etc.) and it drops the brightness down at the same time.

I then play my game at 240fps at 240hz and it 'feels' like I'm playing at 500fps/500hz. I found it useful in some occasions but overall didn't find the implementation that amazing - and actually enabling it can be a real pain each time.
