Sharing 4 years of my experience.

The issue:
Game feels unsmooth despite high fps, 600 fps feels like 60 shaking the mouse or looking around etc. This affects mouse inputs and makes the game unplayable. As if I'm always trying to keep up to a laggy game every time I try to aim. The display is 'stroby'. If I shake my camera looking at a bot, the view gets so choppy that the bot multiplies to 3, and this applies to everything on my screen.

Specs:
AMD system
CPU: 7800x3d
GPU: 9070XT
Mobo: ASUS TUF B6560M PLUS
RAM: Kingston Fury beast CL30 6000MT

Things I have tried, I know and where I'm at:
- I've tried %90 of windows tweaks on the internet.
- 23h2,24h2,25h2. Normie install, clean install, post install debloat, autounattend debloated install, valleyofdoom/amit way of install...
- Tried Linux Cachyos, same thing. It's not OS.
- I've bought the Fiberoptic DP cable.
- I've bought a double conversion UPS.
- I've bought a new GPU. (from 3060 to 9070XT)
- I've bought a new monitor (from Viewsonic XG2401 144hz to XL2566X+ 400hz)
- I've bought a pciex1 Intel NIC. Didn't make difference. (Onboard is realtek 2.5g) (and yes I tried netadaptercx driver) game feels the same internet unplugged, although mouse input gets better on desktop, jittery frames stay the same.
- I tried %90 of different BIOS settings combinations.
- tuned RAM, JEDEC RAM, 1 stick, 1 & 3 slot, buildzoid timings etc.
- I tried many BIOS versions.
- Freesync,vsync,antilag
- I've swapped my router with a 5G cellular router
- I've tried the recent iGPU method, helped raw inputs, view is the same.
- I've dismantled and rebuilt the PC multiple times. Disconnected all front panel USB ports. Disabled all USB3.2 ports and only using 4 USB ports. (mouse & kb on CPU, mic & headset on chipset)
- I've tried bottom slot pcie for gpu & nvme. Also lowering GEN speed in the bios.
- Gpu drivers, chipset drivers, no chipset drivers, partially picked chipset drivers..

I will vent here:
This is all I can think of right now. I'm battling with this for 4 years now. I've been reading this forum for a long time, trying things on my end, hoping to find a fix and experimenting. I'm really tired at this point and started to lose hope, hence why I'm making this post. I'm considering buying an Intel CPU (probably 270k plus) and a mobo as a last effort. As I don't know what's left to even do at this point. I've never used Intel, my old setup was AM4.

This issue started as just floaty mouse back then, I was playing CS. Now today I don't have floaty mouse, but the frame delay and choppiness is worse than that and enough to make it impossible to play. I'm only playing Deadlock now and will do in the future. (It's also a source 2 game) So you might think that it's game issue. But if you've experienced anything similar, and are sensitive to this, you can feel it even on the desktop. I know what 150,300,600 fps should look and feel like. Same goes for refresh rate. I'm at a point where I can't trust my muscle memory anymore, every time I move my camera I have to wait a milisecond to proccess what's on my screen after the choppy view clarifies so I can react. And when I react, my mouse is still laggy that I can't aim properly anyway.

The best way I can describe this is as if something is holding back my PC from working properly, gets in the way of delivering frames properly & smoothly.

I'm open to any help, questions, ideas & suggestions. Thanks for reading.

UPDATE:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/commen ... ocks_lclk/

This post I mentioned made input much sharper, if anyone wants to try, however for me it didn't get rid of the microstuttery/jittery image.
After trying this I decided to disable igpu and set my FCLK manually, I can go up to 1600 on my B650 board. Input is still good, noticable improvement on the image aswell, but still not %100. But I can at least play with freesync + vsync for now.

maybe it's the AMDIP.

try the 270K and you can always return it within 30 days if it's not better.

TLDR: No solution, just yapping.

I have more or less the same issue as you. I've had it since around late 2022. I would advise against buying PC parts because, best-case scenario, your problem will be resolved for a day or two. You'll get a dopamine rush comparable to crack cocaine, then it'll go right back to the shit you're experiencing now.

What frustrates me the most is how the hell there still isn't a solution to this lol. It's been years and no one has a clue. I genuinely have dreams about finding a permanent solution to this problem and reinstalling years' worth of games that I never got to play properly. I wonder what it must feel like to wake up, play normally, then go to bed knowing the game will feel exactly the same tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is cope, but this issue has made me question players who are good at games. Like, are they actually that good, or have they just had the privilege of building their skill on a consistent foundation where their fucking game behaves normally?

Anyways, I think the most rational thing to do is just concede gaming altogether and find another hobby. But then again, that's easier said than done, especially with this issue.

I know the exact feeling you are describing. I went really deep into the rabbit hole the last few months even tho I play league of legends not FPS games. In my experience the thing that makes the absolute biggest difference apart from the basic stuff is playing with interrupt settings.
-Assigning GPU, NIC, usb controller to different cores, playing with combinations, some things feel better if you leave them default, some don't
-Changing Interrupt Steering in windows powerplan settings
-Giving them different MSI limits in GoInterruptPolicy. (Maybe someone smarter than me can explain why my mouse feels perfect when I give the USB controller that handles it 16 MSI limit when in the max column it says 8, I did multiple blind tests about this and I can tell instantly if it's set 8 or 16
-Playing with NICs settings, how many RSS queues, setting up those RSS queues on different cores, interrupt moderation. I bought a PCIe Intel NIC aswell and im loving it, lowering TxIntDelay and RxIntDelay also can make dramatic difference
-Timer Resolution, this might only work for me because I'm playing a game with an old engine. League requests 1ms timer, so using a lower one is really nice

All these tweaks are game and system specific and its pretty tedious trying million combinations because noone can tell you that for your game on your PC what's gonna feel the best. Hope you can find some improvement tuning some of these.

You say it's been happening for 4 years. Do you remember what has changed since then? Was there any factor 4 years ago that could have started all of this? I'm suffering from the same problem since 2016. As I can remember, it was something to do with a BIOS update or a mouse change. Still its unsolvable...

Thanks for the input. I forgot to put cpu affinities on the list. I've done that too and it actually makes an improvement. Not the root of the problem unfortunately but it helps.

Yes. Mine all started after a windows reinstall. On my old AM4 system. It was only floaty mouse, not un-smooth image. Then I built an AM5 system. Got rid of the floaty mouse, but this issue arose.

have you tried disabling cppc preferred cores in bios and keeping cppc enabled. don't leave it on auto, auto doesn't correctly choose setting.

I keep seeing this recommended but in my BIOS I only have 1 setting which is ''CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores'' and the options are: Auto, Cache, Frequency, Driver. I tried all but couldn't really notice a difference. Some say it doesn't matter for single CCD chips, some say it should be frequency. I don't know which I should set or how to disable.

That sucks. There are other x3d users that have the disabled option. If you set it to Cache or Driver, what will happen is it tells windows to do extra work to figure out how to allocate work to the x3d cores. But that's only needed for the dual ccd x3d chips, where 1 ccd has the x3d and the other ccd does not. yours is a single ccd. So that only leaves frequency as your only option.

AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer

The AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer enhances the performance of Ryzen 9 9000X3D 3D V-Cache processors in gaming and non-gaming tasks. It achieves this by dynamically adjusting the “favored” processor cores based on the current application. During gaming sessions, the OS prioritizes cores connected to the larger L3 cache. Conversely, for non-gaming tasks, it favors the cores with the highest frequency. Notably, the AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer does not “park” any cores.

This feature benefits desktop processors such as the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, Ryzen 9 9900X3D, Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and Ryzen 9 7900X3D. However, it does not provide advantages for single CCX X3D processors like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

Configuration options for this feature are available in the BIOS under AMD CBS/SMU Common Options/CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores. The settings include:

– Auto | Driver: Allows the driver to decide which CPUs to prefer based on the active window.
– Cache: Always prefers CPUs in the 3D V-Cache CCX.
– Frequency: Always prefers CPUs in the highest frequency CCX.

Overall, the AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer significantly boosts the efficiency and performance of compatible Ryzen 9 processors by intelligently managing core usage based on the task at hand.
