My experience with “the lag” and temporary fixes

Post by SweatHatesMe? » 14 Aug 2026, 18:05

Disclaimer: sorry if my English isn’t the best and I reupload this here with the purpose of having more visibility.
I’m making this post just to share my experience and what I’ve discovered about it. I started noticing this “lag” when I couldn’t rank up from Champ 1 on Rocket League. I thought it was a skill issue, but after reviewing my 50/50s, my car behavior and that every single person that I played against got god reflexes and was always perfectly positioned definitely was something related with this “lag” . I used to play on a refurbished Xbox one S and I thought that the Xbox was the problem and bought a new one, felt flawless for like 20 minutes and then the issue came again  . Since I thought it was impossible that this type of lag exists I started blaming my ISP and like any person with a good mental health I decided to burn the modem and optic fiber cables  (don’t blame on me I was 16 hahaha). Anyway the technician came and change the whole installation. Finally I thought it was over, I turned on my Xbox worked fine for 10 mins and then again. After experiencing again I felt like crazy, still I was optimistic that it wasn’t something related with me, so my next move was inviting a friend to play. I did this with the purpose of discarding any possible electrical issue. He played with one of my Xbox for around 7 hours and didn’t find an issue at all, to clarify we were on the same game, party and everything except we were on a different room. Now the options started to reduce because it was remaining two things some weird electrical interaction I could be experiencing on my home or literally just me (I thought over here it wasn’t me because there were days I would peak, the games not necessarily behave super good, but it was kinda playable) . I took a break from gaming for my mental health also believing that maybe it could disappear when I came back.
On a random day after 6 months I decided it would be okay to play again, but this time on my laptop. Downloaded rocket league and Fortnite and boom both games felt so good for about an hour… the lag started increasing with the time. So know I thought it could be a software issue or location issue, I tried any possible optimization and still no success during this period of time I played on different locations and different hardware and got the same results; good for a really short time, even though I played for weeks on different places. Know it wasn’t something electric/hardware/software/location related :o the only thing that was still the same on those tests it was ME. I stopped being delusional and started to questioning what about me could be possibly causing this lag, here are the things I tried:
-connected myself to 2V (mixed results, jumping from stable to unstable and vice versa in seconds)
-Wire with low electric power around the controller joystick (same as being connected to a battery)
- gloves (exceptionally good for around 20 minutes, starts degrading when I start to sweat from hands BIG CLUE HEREEE, same with ESD gloves)
- DIY grounding (connected myself to a homemade ground with an antistatic wrist. Makes the games kinda stable around 20-25% more)
-Pot with water (this works really well for 5 minutes then the game feels bad again.)
-Socks wrapped in controller (best result so far. It’s what makes feel any game more stable than anything, sadly after sweating or hands transferring heat the stability starts disappearing slowly BIG CLUE HEREEE AGAIN)
-playing while someone else touches my arm (it works for like 30 minutes, then lag appears again).
-Shielding the controller with aluminum and antistatic tape (yep, aluminum wrapped on the controller and paste it with antistatic tape, worked fine for a while then the lag came back. Noticed that if I added new aluminum or tape the lag disappeared for a short period of time).
That’s all I can remember right now if I remember anything else I would put it.

Hypothesis: I think what makes us feel this lag it is something related with our sweat and how we transfer heat with our hands, that’s why no matter the location, hardware, software the lag appears… I’m a believer that causes some type of interference that manifests during time, that’s why we only have came across with just temporary solutions for an insignificant time by changing how we interact with the software or hand composition until it starts manifesting again. It would give a big piece of evidence if someone manages to play with some gloves that shields hands completely (basically almost no physical interaction with the hardware to manipulate) or if someone manages to shield their software and play at least the ones that allows inputs K&M or controller. I’ll like to add that this lag is more present on online games simply by the nature of how the games interpret inputs.
If you think I missed something feel free to add.

Extra observations/niche observations:
I’ve saw that if you mess with game settings, the lag disappears for secs or a minute, same when changing a network setting from your modem.
Messing with the display resolutions also have the same effect, but weirdly on different resolutions is more stable. For me it has been 1280*720 windowed, I completely don’t know the nature of this effect :?: .
Squeezing/hitting K&M or controller also makes the lag disappears for seconds.
Having air around hands from a fan or A/C makes the lag disappear for seconds randomly.
This might sound nuts. If someone is passing near your setup, the game can feel stable for seconds :| .

Message:
First I want to thank you all for reading what I said somehow is also a way to vent about this bc if I’m being honest I don’t have anyone to share this lol and the few relatives I’ve, they called me crazy lmaooo :x .
Also please stop buying new hardware unless you really have documented or proved that’s actually a hardware issue, otherwise you are just wasting money and probably mental health if it doesn’t work.
I’ll put 4 sections, one with temporary or possible fixes you guys have found, other with observations/hypothesis you have, one for one where you guys can share your profile (do you sweat a lot, on what you play and blood type <- this just to see if there’s some sort of pattern, height and weight) just share it if you feel comfortable about it and the only purpose of this is just to have as much information as we can and finally one for general discussion of what i said or in general.

I'll never forget the time I sat at a colleague's computer in the next room. It was a pathetic office Celeron with a 60Hz monitor. The first few movements, it felt like I was moving the mouse with my eyes, perfect muscle memory, everything so smooth and sharp. You know what I mean.
But after just a minute, the computer turned into a turtle on ice. The mouse stacked up as the third or fourth trace in the trail. And that same evening, a colleague asked, "What did you do to my computer? Why did the mouse sensitivity change?"

Whenever I went to a friends apartment he'd say the internet became laggy when I arrived lmao. Perhaps our bodies are perma ungrounded somehow :D

Lol i'll try to play on a computer's friend to see if it happens lmao. If this "lag" is caused by that, i don't even know how it is even possible to fixe this.

Did you plug your mouse or other peipheral to his computer or you were just there?

The USB port issue is currently undetermined whether it's a chipset problem or an operating system problem. In short, you need to unplug the keyboard in a single-player game environment, leaving only the mouse USB receiver plugged in. Then, test each USB port for 1-3 minutes until you find the most effective one. Some motherboards may have issues even with the optimal port, but this is already the best solution.

No. I just came up to show him some Excel function.

This is the right channel for myself 😂 you guys have same problem like me. We are ungroundet, full of EMI or idk what. I only noticed when i circle my head, turn it left right, up down and also roll my eyes, the input gets worse (sens of mouse change) ice feeling etc..
