Display lag or something else?
So, I've run into a major issue. For a year now, if not more, I’ve had terrible hit registration.
I've tried three different internet providers, and it's the exact same everywhere.
Even on the shooting range, I shoot a bot and it dies with a delay—I manage to look away, and only after that does the bot actually die. I just don't understand how to explain this.
There have been rare instances when I turned on my PC and everything felt super smooth and great; even in really bad games I’d drop 120 ADR, whereas normally it goes up to 200+. But when hitreg is dead and there's no smoothness, every single game yields at most 70 ADR. This happens in many games, and I have no idea what's causing it.
My PC specs: Ryzen 7 5700X3D, GTX 1660, 2x8GB 3200MHz (16-17-17-17), and a Samsung Odyssey G4 240Hz monitor. I've actually found complaints online about this specific monitor having very high input lag.
What on earth could be going on? I'm so exhausted by all of this. I just want to log in and enjoy the game, but instead, there's zero smoothness and the hit registration is absolute garbage.
I’m seriously considering swapping my monitor for an AOC to start with, since it genuinely might be the monitor's fault, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I attached a video showing the hitreg issue: the first bot dies with a delay after I've already dragged my crosshair away, while the second one is a bit smoother. Don't even get me started on ranked—sometimes when moving, it's literally impossible to kill anyone because there's just zero hit registration.
I tried using GearUP and ExitLag, but it's completely useless. When I stream to Discord, people say everything looks normal on their end, but on my screen I see very severe input lag / delay. I've attached an example video
And imagine this is just on bots, but when players are moving it's simply impossible to kill anyone, feels like I'm catching some kind of desync
I even tried playing on a 60Hz monitor and noticed zero difference in input lag, maybe even felt slightly better aside from the motion blur. My peak in Valorant is 500 RR, I never drop below Immortal, but the feeling of delay is extremely strong.
I even changed the wiring and grounding, and it's still no use, help pls

Re: Display lag or something else?
I can't say much about CS since I haven't played it in a very long time, but Valorant is extremely problematic. I was already thinking about the IPS matrix, maybe that's the issue, or maybe I just got a bad unit. Would a Fast IPS be better after all? And it's unlikely my hardware can't handle Valorant on low settings.
Monitor settings are turned down to a minimum, I'm not even pushing it hard, and I've already tried so much—used both DP and HDMI cables. Could it be that Valorant is just too dynamic for it and it overheats? I have so many thoughts at this point that I honestly don't know what to think or what the real cause is.

try starlink if you're able to & have good view on the sky from your home ! if it doesn't give good result use exitlag with it to get better routes. i'm starting to get really decent games with starlink with 36-50 ping but only with exit lag. signal is decent and i have no disconnections anymore. at some moment there is congestion too but this is way better than my 8gbs fiber (tried every isp and 5g) . can't wait when they will have their new satellite generation. can't wait for amazon leo too

Re: Display lag or something else?
first time i heard of good experience with Starlink in games online, the good thing is they seem to improve their infrastructure very fast which is somewhat exciting. Do you mind saying which plan you took? 100mbps, 200mbps or the unlimited speed? Are you located in EU?darkbebe wrote: ↑08 Sep 2026, 11:02try starlink if you're able to & have good view on the sky from your home ! if it doesn't give good result use exitlag with it to get better routes. i'm starting to get really decent games with starlink with 36-50 ping but only with exit lag. signal is decent and i have no disconnections anymore. at some moment there is congestion too but this is way better than my 8gbs fiber (tried every isp and 5g) . can't wait when they will have their new satellite generation. can't wait for amazon leo too

Re: Display lag or something else?
i'm located in reunion island , french island in indian sea. but the only game servers with low ping for us are located in south africa.
i took the priority data plan but it has almost no difference with the residential (400mbs).
in our island we have fibers with good jitter & 0 packet loss (at least shown of the various applications and cs 2) but hit register is awful most of the time , like we have 200 - 400 ping when we have 36 - 41 (to south africa) 72-90 ping to Singapour and we're very limited in routes because we're lost in the middle of ocean
. problem is on cs2 apex legend valorant , was already on cs go too so every fps games with udp packet
Starlink wasn't working well until 1-2 months ago for my island , lot of disconnections & ping variations. I noticed a huge improvement on the jitter download graph then i gave a good try with exit lag. it's a pleasure to see some actions where you can kill 3 guys in short time with few bullets or hit guys with the 1st one in the head
and yeah as you said , this compagny is making improvement and research every day ! not like those cancerous fibers made for maximum download rate and tv / streaming , doomed for a part of gamers

So it's probably not your network. Your bufferbloat score is perfect.Erling1 wrote: ↑07 Sep 2026, 13:54So, I've run into a major issue. For a year now, if not more, I’ve had terrible hit registration.

I actually have a AMD Zen 3 system as well, and from personal experience these platforms are VERY ram sensitive.
AMD ram latency is higher than Intel, so you actually need to invest in a high quality RAM.
Im running a 5950x with G skill trident z Royal Elite at 3600 cl 14-14-14-34 at 1.45V.
Even with higher frequency and lowest timings (these timings are best quality B die) i still get a memory latency of 64 ns.
64ns is nothing special, it's just acceptable. With that my input lag is playable.
I'm assuming your Aida64 memory latency would be around 70ns? Let me know cause when mine was closer to 70 the games were hella unresponsive, even though the hit reg was ok

Re: Display lag or something else?
You know that memory latency has nothing to do with peripheral input lag right? Even if it did you would not be able to tell because no human being is able to feel a 10 nanosecond differencechipotlechicken wrote: ↑Yesterday, 18:37So it's probably not your network.
