Mouse Input Issues
I started PC gaming in 2019. I never had an issue, but something still felt off.
In 2021 I got my second PC. I didn’t notice it at first, but it was as if my mouse input started to slowly deteriorate. A year later in 2022, I started to notice how my mouse felt floaty, every game had some sort of permanent delay, every game looked hazy or like some sort of slight blur effect, I had to physically move my mouse more than others even at the same sensitivity, my FOV looked depthless/compressed, my flicks never had any snap, and my mouse felt “mismatched”.
In 2023 I went to my cousins house, played on his PC and setup. His PC had worse FPS, his setup and peripherals were completely different than mine, yet the second I moved the mouse, I knew I had experienced the “truth” lol. Within seconds of moving his mouse, I didn’t have to adapt to his sensitivity, I didn’t have to account for any feelings of delay or float, I was able to simply play the game for once. The same happened on my brothers PC.
In 2025 I got my third PC, same issues as the second PC.
During these 6-7 years I’ve tried every possible BIOS “fix”, every Windows fix, tons of peripherals, tons of driver versions, multiple windows versions, I’ve tried so many things. The only time I’ve ever had a normal FOV and normal mouse input, was on my cousins and brothers PC
My first PC had a Ryzen 5 2600, second PC had a Ryzen 7 3700x, and third PC had a Ryzen 5 7600x.
my brothers PC had an i7 10700f, and my cousin had some i5.
Also, I know this will sound stupid, but whenever I watch a video and someone is using an Intel CPU, I can see that they are physically quicker at reacting, their mouse input is normal, their FOV is normal, etc.
Now the part that gets a bit weird is that I’ve also seen the same thing on some videos of people who have Ryzen CPUS.
So this makes me wonder if I’m personally to sensitive to whatever is causing this, or if it’s something else entirely.
It’s gotten so bad to the point that my arms now feel “dead”. I can barely bring myself to move the mouse because of how bad it feels, like my arms are lifeless.
I can’t even play a game and move my mouse fast, because then I’ll overshoot everything due to the float; but that day I played on my cousins Intel PC, I was swinging the mouse around like never before.
I have a few theories as to what the cause can be, but I can be completely wrong, so I need your opinions and knowledge.
• I believe it can be caused by the chiplet architecture, which I believe will always have a latency penalty compared to Intels monolithic CPUs. I believe this is or was the main difference between Intel and AMD CPUs, which is why it’s the theory I believe the most.
• It could be the chiplet architecture affecting the CPU to RAM latency. If this is the cause, would X3D CPUs fix this? Because to my knowledge, the X3D tech or whatever, “replaces” the CPU to RAM path, and makes it CPU to 3D Cache or something, which is faster than RAM, but idk.
• My third theory is that it’s maybe just something else, something “behind the scenes”, as in something i don’t know about or something like a “philosophy” Intel and AMD build their CPUs on.
Right now I’m able to get a new PC. It will be my final PC for the next 3-5 years. I want to be able to play games competitively at competitive FPS (240/360) now, and for the next 3-5 years, and also stream occasionally.
I’m able to pick between two PCs, and both are really close in price.
The first PC has a 9800x3d with a 5070. The second PX has a 13/14900k with a 4080. Both will be around $2k.
The PC with the 9800x3d I think will give me the highest performance, with no high power draw or higher power bills, but it might still give me the same issues I have always had.
The PC with the 13/14900k is still very good, I’m like 100% sure it’ll remove my issues, but it comes with the risk of degradation and higher power bills.
If you guys were me, what would you pick?
Also, have any of you gone from a non X3D AMD CPU to an X3D, and noticed an improvement in mouse input? Or from a monolithic Intel CPU to an X3D CPU and noticed an improvement in mouse input?

Re: Mouse Input Issues
I made the same mistake—I spent money on a new system—and we’re having the same issues: the mouse hovers in mid-air, and the display isn’t clear or smooth. I built systems with the 9800X3D, 9850X3D, and a brand-new 14700KF, but at the end of the day, they all performed terribly. Don’t waste your money.

Yes, i swapped from a 5800x3d to a 14600k, still had the issue.

Re: Mouse Input Issues
I genuinely believe that there is perfect cpu/motherboard/ram combo to eliminate this problem. But since all the manufacturers know they will be judged by what ever fps increase they manage to get they use any method possible to gain fps at the expense of every thing else. What PC i'd build to try and rid myself of this issue is a non multi-chip designed intel chip with out hyper threading. So for price reasons id go with an old i7 9700k a top end motherboard for that chip and some high speed top quality low latency DDR4 ram. Yes you will lose FPS but you will be rid of the issue (I believe)

I tried an expensive power supply, motherboard, and CPU I had a 9600X, now a 9800X3D—and the answer is no. 10 years ago I had an i5 3470 build with DDR3, and it wasn't good with that either.

Re: Mouse Input Issues
Have you tried plugging any of your PCs at your cousin's place? I strongly suspect the PC hardware is not at fault, but something electricity related, do try any of your computers at your cousin's place where the issue doesn't seem to exist.Quajila wrote: ↑09 Sep 2026, 03:04I started PC gaming in 2019. If it still runs badly, I would assume bad ram compatibility with your motherboard, even using default bios settings, there are some sticks that work, but work awfully with certain motherboards.

Re: Mouse Input Issues
Have you tried mice with different mcus? Not sensor but mcu? Maybe like compx tech or something? Or something that is not from nordic? Idk why but I feel like the issue could be the anti interference tech used in the mice. Been thinking about it since last night.
