Eye strain with IPS and even OLED

Post by Mrlokin » 09 Oct 2026, 14:31

Hello, I am trying to upgrade my XL2411P 1080p TN 144Hz, but I get terrible eye strain with any IPS panel, to the point of being unusable even in the short term. When I look at some IPS screens, my eyes instantly become uncomfortable. Currently, I am using the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDMS that i bought yesterday, because I thought the problem was just IPS, but I still get some eye strain (though a lot less than with IPS). I tried reducing blue light, changing the color depth to 8-bit in AMD Adrenaline, changing the refresh rate, sitting farther from the monitor, and lowering the brightness. This helped a bit, but it didn't completely solve the problem. Im triying to find a solution online but its been hard. In my current TN monitor i can sit for hours without any noticeable eye strein.

Currently my settings: VRR on, brightness 38, contrast 70, sRGB mode, gamma 1.8, and the rest is on default.

Displays I have tried: Alienware 27 (AW2724DM), Samsung T350 27" 75Hz (that's an old one - LF27T350FHLMZD), and the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDMS OLED (current one). Even the Steam Deck LCD IPS display makes my eyes uncomfortable (I had to sell it).

On the other hand: My cell phone screen (Samsung Galaxy S25 FE), iPad 10, older monitors and laptops from work (generic 720p screen), and the XL2411P TN don't bother me at all.

I really want to go 1440p, but I prefer eye comfort over image quality. I have 6 days to return the OLED monitor, but I'm not sure that I will get used to it. Anyone can give me any clue? Thanks for the help in advance.
