Have any reputable sites done a review of it yet? I remember reading several reviews about the 50" being good-to-great as a monitor, but sub-par at best as a TV. In my opinion 65" is too large for the majority of desks, and is best served as doing double duty as a home theater hub & couch HTPC. If the 65" has the same "TV" issues as the 50", I don't know that it would be worth it as a couch HTPC.

Either way I would love to see some reputable reviews of it.

I haven't found any via Google. But it was just released in December. Maybe some talk on the RED forums. I'll check later.

This Amazon review of the 50" is pretty bad. If this is what Seiki is doing with all their displays it's a deal-breaker even more than the 30 Hz limit.

For movies, there's no way to feed this display with 24 or 25 fps at 4k resolution to get reasonable frame timing out from the panel. It'll take the frames at the input, happily declare the input mode as the mode in the UI on the display, and then display the frames at 30 fps, frequently doubling a frame to make up the difference.

Other info:

With 4k at 25 fps input (and probably at 24 or 30 input), the backlight flashes at 60 Hz. With 1080p 120 fps input, the backlight flashes at 120 Hz.

A 65" screen would provide a nice 40° angle of view at 6½ ft. Assuming the view didn't suck.

The REDUSER.net forum thread about this TV is very interesting reading, for the SEIKIs' usage for movie playback.

Let's hope that the upcoming future SEIKI HDMI 2.0 displays announced at CES 2014 (4K 60Hz!) displays are able to multisync to 24-60Hz, at least. Then we can get our 24p and 48p(HFR) cadence for proper movie playback.

EDIT: Can anyone confirm Seikis have backlight blanking/blinking/scanning (but probably not full image strobing)? And it is a fixed Hz regardless of content framerate? A 60Hz scan seems odd and would have issues with double-flash artifacts for 30fps and below.

$1,300+ is still a lot to pay for a giant PC monitor that the vast majority can't fit on their desk. Or even on the wall above their desk. Especially considering that the 65" (if it has the same issues as the 50") is next to useless as an HTPC solution for even casual film buffs.

Also, I read that any resolution other than 3840x2160 and 1920x1080 results in a blurred image on the 50" model. Which shouldn't be happening. I've used downsampling on several TVs, most recently Samsung & Vizio TVs, and both look clear on everything except very small text (8pt-10pt; 12pt & up read fine at moderate distance). If 3200x1800 or 2880x1620 look great on a 1080p panel not even designed for downsampling, then it should look even better on a 4K panel. I really wish I had the link to that now. I believe it was even blurring 1280x720 resolutions as well. Which would make most TV broadcasts at 720p less than stellar. If anything is standing in the way of mass 4K adoption by consumers, its quality that is subpar to 1080p TVs with 720p/1080i/1080p content...

Hopefully when they release HDMI 2.0 models, they'll fix these issues. If they do get these issues worked out, I'll buy a 65" model and at least one 39". If the prices stay similar to the current line, I'll grab three 39"s for a Surround setup. But scaling and refresh problems have to be made a priority, even for bare-bones budget TVs.
