Why is adobe flash so stuttery?
I don't think I've ever seen a single flash video on youtube that I could honestly say was a smooth frame rate. It's like watching badly converted videos that have been messed around with again and again. It's the same with broadcast videos that use flash, like BBC iplayer etc, they are just as bad. The BBC used to let you download the video in MP4 to play with windows media player, which was perfect. But now all they let you do is watch it in flash and it's terrible.

I've had problems with Twitch constantly stuttering while using some versions of Opera, but when I use Chrome it is smooth. Chrome comes with its own built-in flash installation so I think it may have to do with the version of flash or settings in the flash installation.fenderjaguar wrote:I don't think I've ever seen a single flash video on youtube that I could honestly say was a smooth frame rate. I personally don't even have flash installed anymore and just use Chrome if a site requires flash.

Try using IE11 or IE12 if you're on windows 10. Internet explorer seems to be the best for me at not dropping frames when watching twitch or even doing the blur busters ufo test.

I don't even view the videos in the browser anymore. Flash sucks. Even the HTML5 player in youtube sucks. Frame skipping all the time.
I just use SMPlayer (with mpv as backend.) I drag and drop videos (almost from any site imaginable) or Twitch streams into it, and they play perfectly smooth with "opengl-hq" as video output.

if you want to do this but play it in vlc download livestreamer and with a quick command in cmd or a batch file you can run any steam you want.RealNC wrote:I don't even view the videos in the browser anymore. Flash sucks. Even the HTML5 player in youtube sucks. Frame skipping all the time.

cmd: livestreamer www.twitch.tv/clutchentertainment source
Re: Why is adobe flash so stuttery?
I was using livestreamer before. But now that SMPlayer works with mpv, no need for that. Just drag&drop from browser to the player window. Can't get any easier than that. No command-line needed.

Smplayer sounds fine, I just wanted to give him a option if he wanted to use vlc
are you using Linux? I don't think the windows build of smplayer (with mpv) supports twitch with the built in URL player. I had to go to the install location of mpv inside of smplayer folder and run "mpv http://www.twitch.tv/clutchentertainment" to get it to work
i'm not quite sure how you got it running.

Re: Why is adobe flash so stuttery?
It works for me in both Linux as well as Windows. In Windows, my SMPlayer is: 14.9.0 (svn r6699) (64-bit)
However, in Windows, you need to update the bundled youtube-dl.exe. For that, simply run:
youtube-dl.exe -U
This will make it auto-update to the latest version (you probably need to run this from an admin command-line since c:\program files is usually read-only for users.)
Also *VERY* important, in the smplayer settings, "Network" section, you need to enable the "Enable MPV's support for streaming sites" checkbox. Otherwise it won't work.
Furthermore, in order to avoid buffering issues when viewing Twitch, you should add this in the "Advanced->Options for MPlayer/MPV/Options" line:
--cache-secs=10
If you also want to be able to view 1080p and 60FPS videos on youtube ("DASH video"), you also need this option:
--ytdl-format=best,bestvideo+bestaudio
And also need to disable the "Enable Youtube internal support" checkbox in the "Network" section of the smplayer settings.
Note though that seeking in DASH video streams does not work correctly, as mpv can't get the timing information right now (maybe in the future though.)

Re: Why is adobe flash so stuttery?
Thankfully Youtube has been pushing HTML5 video instead of Flash by default on modern browsers. Hope others will follow soon.

OK thanks. I've been using firefox for like 10 years. Just used chrome and it's sooo much better. I would switch to chrome, because it's much faster as well, but there are some other things about it I don't like compared with firefox
