Buying a new gaming monitor
Buying a new gaming monitor
Hey guys,
My monitor just died(I had old samsung syncmaster) and I wanted to but a new monitor.
I was looking at the following monitors; Benq XL2420Z, Asus VG248QE , Benq RL2455HM
There are few things i quite dont understand.
I dont play any FPS games, I play moba games and RPG/RTS.
So reading around the internet people suggest the RL series for RTS/RPG(Which will save me a lot of money).
I seen people complaining about the XL2420Z colors etc.
I play mostly LoL and RPG games, I dont know if the XL2420Z will benefit me much for it's price.
In fact, I dont understand about any monitor features at all, And i dont know how much the will benefit me while i dont play any FPS games.
Will it be worth buying xl2420z if i play only rpg/rts/moba games ?
What are the huge differences between the RL and XL series? And when people complain about XL colors is it really that bad?
Thanks ahead.
Kyo.

Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
Ok, so some basic questions:
How much are you willing to spend, and where in the world are you?
What approximate size and resolution are you after?
What is your current GPU?

Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
I have the money to spend if it's really worth it so money is not the real issue
I have GTX680, Until now i played only 1680x1050 since it was my monitor max res but ill start going towards 1920.
I'm looking for 22-24 monitor size.
I live in the middle east.

Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
XL series will benefit you if you fps goes above 60 and in fast action, it will make it smoother and easier to see. in most RTS/MOBA/RPG (I believe anyways) it wont matter AS much as fps games were your whole screen will be shaking really quickly.Kyo wrote:Planning to buy today, any suggestions ?
RL series should have fine low latency monitor for you to buy
Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
Yes i understand,
I do play at around 200-400FPS (LoL).
The question is, When you say it wont matter will it result in quality/performance loss and will actually be less than the R series?
Thanks

The performance will be the same, The XL series will just be smoother because it's a 120/144hz panel meaning it can display more frame and make it smoother.Kyo wrote: The question is, When you say it wont matter will it result in quality/performance loss and will actually be less than the R series?
In fps games, whipping your head side to side and analyzing everything will be easier on a 120/144hz panel because you see more information, were (I think anyways) that in moba a smoother game play wont matter as MUCH. They will both have the same really low input lag which is a plus.
And if you want a small bonus, you could always get a RL series and overclock it to 75hz+~ for a almost XL experience
Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
Hey thanks for all the information.
Eventually the RL was out of stock when i went there and i got the XL2420Z at the end.
I set it on 144Hz and. While League of legends is running uncapped and vsync disabled.
I played around with the colors a lot to get it to how i want, I don't know any features of this monitor yet to be honest so i will be happy for advise.
I get around 180-280FPS on LoL, sometimes the character disappear from spot to spot.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to improve? and what exactly the 'maximum pre-rendered frames' option on nVidia will effect? I set it to 1 for now but should i change it when i play other games ?
Thanks

Lightboost is a pretty big deal, it eliminates almost all motion blur. http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion- ... boost-faq/Kyo wrote:I played around with the colors a lot to get it to how i want, I don't know any features of this monitor yet to be honest so i will be happy for advise.
This sounds like a gpu artifact, did you overclock your gpu? or is this a bug in lol or something?Kyo wrote:I get around 180-280FPS on LoL, sometimes the character disappear from spot to spot.
A user named "flood" on this fourm has been testing for input lag for CS:GO and for some time now nothing has really changed the performance besides leaving the fps uncapped. I would suggest simply not touching any controlpanel settings unless you are sure you know what they do.Kyo wrote:Do you guys have any suggestions on how to improve? and what exactly the 'maximum pre-rendered frames' option on nVidia will effect? Re: Buying a new gaming monitor
Thanks for your answer.
I will definitely read about lightboost tomorrow, Is it something really necessary and has no risk for my monitor ?
So right now i only play with VSync off and uncapped and it seem pretty good,
I didn't notice a big difference while vsync is on, im not even sure what it does to be honest and if maybe i should put it ON and adjust other settings.
Idk if for other games i should adjust it differently.
Im really sorry for my ignorant but i don't understand that much about monitors or graphic options :/

My GPU is not overclocked. I noticed it only happens while VSync is on,Kyo wrote:I get around 180-280FPS on LoL, sometimes the character disappear from spot to spot.

The reason i asked about the Maximum pre-rendered frames option was because I saw someone suggesting it on this forum to someone else who had my issue with LoL, But i am not sure if i should leave it as 1 and if its just a solution for this specific thing,A user named "flood" on this fourm has been testing for input lag for CS:GO and for some time now nothing has really changed the performance besides leaving the fps uncapped.
