Fixed the error by changing device onto another computer, and it came up rather easily this time. Now I have flashed it, however bricked it in the process. Trying to re-flash it as we speak though, hopefully it will come out on top.Garfelf wrote:Had to create an account here in the hopes of updating my firmware too ^_^
Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've done what you (Falkentyne) explained in your walkthrough, however when I scan for the i2c ID and do the dump, I find nothing on the i2cdetect 0-5 interval, the only ones I get data from is 6 & 7 which are DPDDC-A and DPDDC-B.
I have tried installing the BenQ Display Pilot and rebooting the computer, but no result. What can I do differently to catch the bus where the screen is located?
I am currently running the v2 firmware on the screen, but as I read, there is supposedly a v4 firmware now, that should fix the DP issues I am having...

How did you brick it?
Re: Firmware upgrade using Linux tool, requires no hardware
My best guess would be that took the wrong firmware to upgrade the screen with. I went with Whitestar's firmware first, however that was the one that bricked, I then found the new firmware v5 put up on the forum, and downloaded, extracted it, and it worked. So now I am running V5 firmware instead of V2. So, my best guess is that Whitestar's firmware wont work with a XL2720Z, or maybe it was just mine that failed...Falkentyne wrote:How did you brick it?

What does whitestar's firmware offer over the standard firmware? Can you link?Garfelf wrote:My best guess would be that took the wrong firmware to upgrade the screen with. Whitestar's firmware was from an XL2411Z V4. He was the first person to dump the firmware.Garfelf wrote:My best guess would be that took the wrong firmware to upgrade the screen with. Why did you think you could flash an XL2411z firmware into an XL2720Z?

Then later, the same person who released XL2720Z V5 also released another copy of XL2411Z V4 (raw firmware, not 2mb backup).

Oh, I thought it was a custom made firmware. I wish we had custom community made firmware for monitors like we do for routers that give far more options over factory firmware.Falkentyne wrote:Whitestar's firmware was from an XL2411Z V4. Roman did you ever get that mstar device to fix the DVI EDID?roman wrote:It's okay. I am also not particulary angry about this more like annoyed and desperate in fixing it lol. Well seems like i have no other choice left than get an mstar tool. I also knew the risk from the start and knew something could go wrong and took the gamble knowing that.
Well anyhow, still thanks for trying to fix it. Its not the end of the world that this monitor does not run for the moment, but yeah i will eventually get it running again in a month or so.
About your personal issues im sorry to hear that. I cant imagine what incident you had but i had to live homeless for about 1,5 years in the past and hope you can be spared of that experience :/
I wish you the best of luck and well beeing and hope things will turn to the best one day again. Dont give up!

I can't get the USB drivers to install correctly, that or my MStar is faulty. I'm running windows 10, tried on windows 7, any tips please?

Re: Firmware upgrade using Linux tool, requires no hardware
Hey, I have tried to do this a few times. I however have never dabbled in linux before. I got pretty far but then got kind of confused. (some packages were not downloading)
Was wondering if there was anyway someone could post a youtube video or a picture tutorial? I just need something very detailed. (I know the guide is, I just keep getting stuck)
I want to go from v2 to v5 on my XL2720Z. I heard you can tell a pretty big difference just jumping to v3. I am just having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
Currently I have my Benq and a dell side by side. Can I do this with DVI off my Geforce 760 or do I need VGA off the motherboard?
Usually I am good with technically stuff, but this is almost beyond me. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

You run the CDM_setup file. CDM20802_Setupradekpw wrote:I can't get the USB drivers to install correctly, that or my MStar is faulty. I'm running windows 10, tried on windows 7, any tips please?
Make sure you extracted the original zip with directory structure intact.
it runs right away and says "installed successfully" in a small black command prompt window.
TBH I'm using "test mode" on windows 7, so if running as administrator doesn't work, you can try disabling UAC completely and running it, or just turn on test mode and reboot windows. I had absolutely NO problem installing the driver the very first time. Win 1 SP1.
