Acer Predator XB321HK

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Acer Predator XB321HK

Post by Andrew.gunn » 20 Feb 2017, 09:39

hello

I am fairly new to buying a monitor specifically for gaming, I used to buy a monitor based on it being cheap but I have been saving up for a while now upgrading my rig along the way. Now though I get the impression my monitor is letting me down, its an old dell monitor I got with a student computer about 5 years ago. So old I needed to buy a hdmi to vga adapater when I upgraded the GPU a few months ago!

Only reason I kept it is because it's a good size screen, and I was too stupid to realise it made a difference!

Anyway... I have the budget for the Acer Predator XB321HK but want to know if it really is one of the best monitors when talking about 4K, gaming and colours (I do some design work from time to time so need a good IPS screen).

I have been comparing lots of monitors the past few weeks and really like this one, so just wanting to make sure I have made teh right decision before buying it.

The Predator XB321HK, being an IPS panel, does have good benefits for design work, while the GSYNC does help. But you're going to limit yourself to 60Hz.

If you're going to go Full Monty, why not wait for the Swift PG27UQ monitor? A 4K 144Hz IPS monitor with local dimming! Much more expensive, but this might be the best gaming+photoshop have-cake-and-eat-it-too monitor.

That's also just 60Hz.

A good gaming monitor should *at least* be 85Hz and support VRR (FreeSync for AMD, G-Sync for NVidia.)

Also, at 4K, if you have anything less than a GTX 1080 Ti or Titan, you're gonna struggle with performance. And even with one of those GPUs, 60FPS is not guaranteed at 4K. Running 1080p on a 4K monitor in order to get better performance is going to suck, as the image will be blurry due to upscaling.

IMHO, 1440p 27" is the sweet-spot right now when it comes to resolution and size.
