It's a shame. Had this monitor worked as advertised and especially with the Blur Chief's suggestions being implemented, BENQ could've cornered the market with the anti-motion blur technology. Instead they're driving everybody away, never to buy from them again, lol.

It lacks the extra settings like strobe-persistence settings and obviously looks a whole lot worse than the original lightboost.
I got it for a comparably good price, so I mind sending it back. If prices start to drop heavily due to the bug and there's no firmware fix within two weeks I'll will probably send it back and wait for betterment.
The firmware is not user replaceable, so you will need to get it exchanged if you want to use the upcoming Blur Busters Utility for Z-series monitors.

Hey Chief,
should I get in contact with BenQ directly or send it back to the distributor? I really don't think the last instance mentioned knows about the firmware upgrade at all.

When returning to the store, make sure to avoid being charged any restocking fees or the like, as BenQ has admitted to the bug affecting these units, and that you're returning it due to this bug.

hey, im from germany and got the bug too.
this is the answer to my email describing the bug @my monitor. The monitor is quite fine but i want to get a bug free too(price 500€).

They wrote that the newest firmware was available since the 11.12.13 my monitor (bought by amazon 14.2.14) was build @6.12.13
and that this (11.12.13) is the newest firmware for the future.

My question now: Does it make sence trying to get a newer Monitor ? => is the motion blur issue fixed until the 11.12.13.

Thanks for the information about the bug.

PS: I found the bug with ur description but i tried to reproduce it in Counterstrike GO 250 - 330 fps @144 hz. I cant notice it ingame and the monitor is quiete good (with bug).

I realize this discussion is in regards to the XL2720Z; however, the XL2420Z is also affected by the strobe timing bug. The XL2420Z I have appears otherwise flawless, and I'm very interested in the reports of user-upgraded firmware for the XL2720Z, and if the same procedure with appropriate firmware would work with the XL2420Z. I'd much prefer to spend $50 on a piece of hardware rather than deal with return shipping and getting a completely different XL2420Z with other potential problems.

Officially BENQ doesn't want users to upgrade the firmware themselves,
even though unofficially it is possible.

That firmware will not work with the upcoming Blur Busters Strobe Utility.
It will be the newer one coming right after that.
