Alienware AW2518H

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

Alienware AW2518H

Post by daggertx » 28 Nov 2017, 22:11

Hi,

This monitor is 429 right now and I am thinking of picking one up. Do you think it being limited to 144hz when using ULMB is a problem?

THank you!!

Nothing wrong with the the Alienware 240hz, VERY good price and a good monitor. It's not going to be a image quality king but for gaming it's a sweet monitor.

144hz ULMB is a very good experience and very bright.

Thanks for the reply. Bestbuy and Amazon have it for 429 right now, and its 449 on Dell.com. Pretty good deal, even though its a 1080p monitor.

Just so readers know -- purchasing through the Blur Busters 240Hz Monitor List (or this Alienware AW2518H link) automatically supports the continued operation of Blur Busters. Thank you in advance!

Also, 144Hz ULMB is extremely bright. They're among the brightest strobed modes (motion blur reduction) on the market -- 300 nits!

Mr Chief,

Do you have experience with the Alienware G-Sync?

Also, do you think its better to get a monitor that you can configure and play with more. I think the Alienware does not give as many options to tune or mess with stuff like a Ben-Q 240hz.

I also saw this on Toms review:

"Despite its speedy real-world performance, the Alienware Gaming Monitor registered a fairly high latency of 16 milliseconds on our lag tester. That's a bit higher than our 13.6 average."

Thoughts?

I believe that's probably the Leo Bodnar lag tester, which tests only 60Hz lag. It's true 240Hz monitors aren't currently the best at 60Hz lag, but 60Hz isn't what you are buying the monitor for. Very few sites tests lag during 240Hz mode instead of 60Hz mode.

How do you think this monitor compares to the XL2546?

Hy Chief!
Long time lurker, first time poster here!

Have you had any first hand experience with the Alienware monitor?
What I'd like to see would be a comparison of (preferably all) 240hz monitors, that covers motion blur @240hz non-strobed. (and AMA enabled)
Right now I'm looking for a 240hz monitor, and having this information would make my decision way more easy...

(ofc, having the same test done @240hz strobed would provide me and other users with even more valuable information, but I don't want to ask for too much :D
...the absolute dream would be having all of the aforementioned results, AND absolute input lag measured with, and WITHOUT strobing. But that's probably way too much to ask for...)

Here's what I'm talking about:
