Re: FreeSync now available on the XBox One!
That is actually dope! i imagine it still only supports 60hz modes and won't work with 144hz monitors to allow for freesync to be enabled all the time for lower latency. but this is a great step.

WoW!! that is a great news for game lovers.
I never expected to work it on 144hz monitors
But it is a great news all together

The 120hz doesnt really do much for the console. Most games use vsync at 30 or 60hz.
I mean if you use Edge browser alot, it might look smoother, other than that, if games are done properly, they will have a 30/60fps lock with dynamic res. Theres no need for freesync or 120hz support if devs do their work right.
If anything, freesync support encourages devs to optimize even less for stable framerates.

well they can now make games that run at 75fps instead since they are no long limited by the 60hz cap with significantly less input latency because of freesync. That could be cool to see older games get newer 90fps caps if they don't run into physics issues.

Re: FreeSync now available on the XBox One!
A double edged sword slices both ways. Both G-SYNC and FreeSync has forced many PC developers to improve their game engines to behave better. Older 60fps capped PC games perform worse on PCs than the uncapped games of modern PC era.MrBrown wrote:If anything, freesync support encourages devs to optimize even less for stable framerates.
Yes, we can evil-monkey-shake-fist at PUBG's poor stuttery performance -- but let's face it, we've had worse with a lot of engines in the past, many games that have erratic lag-change behaviours as they jump from 30fps to 60fps and back, or games that has awful weird physics when framerate changes, etc. I've seen many such messes fixed by many developers in the "post-60Hz" era.
Even with the other messups (which parties like Battle(non)Sense and other parties love to pick apart), the un-messups outweighs the messups, and so FreeSync will improve XBox development in so many more ways than one.
Console ports will now perform much better on the PC and vice-versa, no longer having to intentionally de-optimize for an outdated, laggy stutterfest of a "VSYNC ON 30fps" regime.
Lexlazootin is correct.lexlazootin wrote:well they can now make games that run at 75fps instead since they are no long limited by the 60hz cap with significantly less input latency because of freesync. That could be cool to see older games get newer 90fps caps if they don't run into physics issues.
60fps on 120Hz FreeSync reduces input lag quite a lot. And since 60fps is never the VRR limit on a 120Hz display, you don't have the lag-increase effect of hitting the FreeSync limit. (Many GSYNC users on Blur Busters are familiar with capping 3fps below max Hz).
So 60fps and 75fps would be quite beautifully lower-lag on a 120Hz FreeSync display!
See 120Hz massively reduces input lag of 60fps and 30fps
