Fast sync+ lightboost with uncapped fps

Post by kevzz01 » 26 Jul 2018, 17:20

Anyone running this setup? I’m playing PUBG with uncapped fps(144 is max) and fast sync on. Is this a good setup for an fps game? Does lightboost reduce the motion blur with this setup?

It's fine.

It's ok, but with fast sync you generally want to cap framerate at the highest sustainable multiple of refresh rate.

Fast Sync looks good with LightBoost if you cap your framerate to equal refresh rate, or a multiple (twice refresh rate).

You have microstutter harmonics (beat-frequency effects) between frame rate and refresh rate.

And blur reduction (LightBoost/ULMB/strobing) amplifies the visibility of stutter. That's why strobing (LightBoost, ULMB, etc) looks more jittery.

To fix that with strobing while avoiding adding on too much VSYNC ON lag -- it is preferable to have "frame rate = refresh rate = strobe rate" -- and for slightly lower input lag with Fast Sync without adding strobed jitteriness -- try a frame rate cap of double the refresh rate when using Fast Sync (or the new graphics-card-independent RTSS Scanline Sync feature, to simulate NVIDIA Fast Sync or AMD Enhanced Sync)
