AW2518H response time question

Just got this monitor and it gives me the option to select, "normal" "fast" and "super fast" for response time. Is there actually a difference or some sort of article/video on the subject?

That's the overdrive setting. The medium setting is almost always the one that provides the best image quality. Low can have ghosting, while high can have reverse ghosting. See:

Normal seems to have the least ghosting/reverse ghosting. Is there a big disadvantage to playing at this setting? I can see the reverse ghosting on either of the faster stetting when I'm scrolling text on a website or watching those moving aliens.
