Hi all.
I'm reviewing the two Asus monitors, specifically the XG258Q and XG248Q, but I can not find any difference other than the edges of the XG258Q are thinner.
I understand that the XG258Q is from 2017, however, the XG248Q is from 2018.
Would someone be so kind as to tell me if there is more difference between the two monitors?
Thank you.
A greeting.
XG248Q vs XG258Q - Differences?
Re: XG248Q vs XG258Q - Differences?
Hi there!
Asus XG248Q has strobing at 240hz, while XG258Q has only at 144hz. XG248Q is 23,8 inches while XG25 is 24,5. You may think that´s a small difference, but enough to notice the slightly higher PPI/detail on the XG248Q.
XG258Q has way better contrast and not prone to backlight bleed, while the XG24 has way worse contrast and colours and some samples can show awful backlight bleed/clouding (not my case, but it happened with several users).
XG24 has lower input lag at 60hz, compared to XG25 (in case you want to connect a playstation 4 sometimes)
XG25 has lower input lag at 240hz, compared to XG24, but the difference won´t be enough to make you play worse or better imo.
XG248Q is a better monitor overall, except for one thing, wich is important to me, for example, but might not be important to you. Coating. The panel coating on the XG24 is a really aggressive matte, and it causes smearing/grainy effect on fast movements. This can be annoying after some time using it; and can be irrelevant to you, but is not to me. That smearing effect gets even worse when you drop framerate too far from 240 (for example, at 150fps). It can affect your gameplay if you are sensitive to it.
Wich one would I pick? XG258Q. But overall, XG248Q can be considered a better monitor in my opinion.

Re: XG248Q vs XG258Q - Differences?
Hi Notty_PT
I have a XG258Q incoming after looking through this forum and especially your posts it seemed like the right 240Hz monitor for me!
And boy was it about time I am rocking 2 good old 2233RZ's at the moment but they have served me very well.
Would you mind sharing your monitor settings for the XG258Q?
I have found the following mentions in some of your posts:
This might be a bit off-topic but if OP decides on this monitor it could prove helpful to him as well!
Thanks!

I have found the following mentions in some of your posts:
- User or FPS Profile
- OD Level 3 (Don't go higher introduces artifacts)
- Avoid vividpixel (Input delay)
- Warm/normal colour mode
- Contrast 70
This might be a bit off-topic but if OP decides on this monitor it could prove helpful to him as well!
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your extensive response, it is very much appreciated.
I take note, you have clarified several points, my goal is to personally classify the best focused monitor for fast response games of 144Hz (native) and 240Hz (native) with FreeSync and 1080p, but in my case I find it very complicated , there are many monitors in the market.
Again, thank you very much.
A cordial greeting.

So now my question is If you’re mainly playing csgo with 300+ fps is XG258Q the Way to go then?
Lowest input lag at higher hz and better contrast etc

This is going to be my use case as well and based on the opinions of Notty_PT who to my understanding has been through quite a few of the 240Hz monitors the XG258Q seems to be the fastest of the bunch.harris3304 wrote:So now my question is If you’re mainly playing csgo with 300+ fps is XG258Q the Way to go then?

Also other users has talked warmly of it, however it might need quite a few setting tweaks to reach its potential.
I was questioning the pick between XG248Q and XG258Q as well however I am pretty sure the panel coating on the XG248Q will be a nuisance to me.

Re: XG248Q vs XG258Q - Differences?
Well after reading a couple of threads of "Notty_PT" I went with XG258Q as i mainly play CSGO and need the lowest input lag possible. The better contrast is just a bonus
And i'm hoping to see a 24~ inch 1440p 240hz display this year as I will be buying it instantly I'm really looking forward to the upcoming high refresh rate 24~ inch monitors coming out! Until then.... Asus XG258Q will have to cut it
