Have I always made a mistake?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

no gpu scaling dont add any input lag but choose no scaling u can use display scaling on older driver u have to check it out

But if I understand to activate gsync actually I also have to activate vsync from the panel. Quite right?

No, you don't need to activate V-Sync anywhere to enable G-Sync. You can try G-Sync Pendulum app that allows you to better see the difference. https://www.nvidia.com/coolstuff/demos#!/g-sync

I don't think G-SYNC monitors can display non-native resolutions with G-SYNC enabled, so you need to use GPU scaling if you want to use lower resolutions. For the native resolution, it doesn't matter.

Thought that as well for a long time, but it seems it is possible. Although in a limited (and quite useless) way:

So for most intents and purposes it seems that yes, it's not possible, unless you're OK with a low refresh rate (which defeats the purpose of wanting a lower resolution to gain FPS.)
